Why Early Access?

“I Am Train is currently under development by a single developer, and Early Access lets players shape it while it grows. The sandbox is already fun to build in and drive, but the best parts of a railway game come from seeing what players actually build: which tools they reach for, where they get stuck, and what they wish their towns could do. Releasing now means features like the Campaign, more trains and structures, and Workshop sharing can be built around real feedback rather than just guessing what players want.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Two months from release in December, end of February 2027.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version will add the ability to create campaigns with goals and missions. The plan is to add more trains, carriages, structures and landscapes; richer passengers, who sign where they want to go and react to how well you serve them; and deeper route planning, including timetables and add Steam Workshop support so players can share their own addon packs. Throughout Early Access we will keep improving performance, controller support and stability, guided by what feedback is received by the player base.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“I Am Train is fully playable today as an open-ended sandbox. You can lay track with straight, flexible and smooth pieces, raise and lower the land, and build stations, houses, trees, lamps, stop buffers, warning lights, level crossings, footpaths and physics props. You can drive your own train with real momentum, overspeed and derailments, or set up routes and let AI trains run them while the townspeople plan their own journeys between your platforms. Free Play also includes Express Rush, a timed passenger challenge, along with a photo mode with filters, a day and night cycle with weather, and tunnels that link your worlds together. Saves sync through Steam Cloud, the game runs in English and Simplified Chinese, and addon packs can add new structures and trains.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“
Yes, the price is currently 25% lower than the full release to reflect the extra content added during Early Access, including the campaigns addition, more trains and structures, Workshop support. Buying during Early Access gets you the game at its lowest price, along with every update up to and through the full release at no extra cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I Am Train will make use of the Steam Community Hub as the main place for feedback, the Discussions boards have threads for bug reports, suggestions and showing off your railways. I read them and reply there. Each update ships with an Event post in the Steam news feed explaining what changed and why, so you can see which of your reports and ideas made it in.”
