About This Demo

Welcome to your probation period.

You are Marek Wierzba, a young junior programmer starting his first serious job at a small software company where everyone seems experienced, busy, and slightly too confident about systems nobody fully understands anymore.

Your task sounds simple: learn the project, complete assigned work, avoid embarrassing yourself, and prove that you deserve to stay.

Of course, this is software development.

So instead of a clean onboarding plan, you get legacy code, vague instructions, office politics, improvised processes, suspiciously important tasks, and senior developers who communicate mostly through silence, sarcasm, and code review comments.

Overcommit: Probation is a standalone narrative demo / prelude to Overcommit: Class Inheritance — a satirical single-player card game about software development, corporate dysfunction, and the slow transformation of human effort into process, metrics, and responsibility without authority.

What to Expect

  • Card-driven narrative gameplay
Use cards representing tasks, emotions, office situations, technical problems, and small survival strategies.

  • A retro software office full of personality
Meet senior developers, HR, managers, testers, and other strange creatures of corporate life.

  • Corporate satire, not corporate fantasy
No chosen-one heroics. No saving the world. Just trying to understand the codebase before someone asks for an estimate.

  • A probation period that actually matters
Every task, conversation, and small decision helps shape how Marek is seen by the company — and how he sees himself.

  • The beginning of a bigger story
Probation introduces the earliest layer of a multi-generational story about work, loyalty, inherited habits, and the systems people build — and then get trapped inside.

Tone

Overcommit mixes dry humor, absurd office rituals, retro computing nostalgia, and the uncomfortable feeling that every “temporary workaround” may eventually become company policy.

If you have ever heard:

  | “It should be a small change.”

or:

  | “We just need you to look at one legacy module.”

you already know where this is going.
