What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We chose Early Access for many reasons; the first and most obvious is, of course, that our game’s genre allows us to continuously add content to improve key aspects of the game and, above all, to base our ongoing development on player feedback. Furthermore, as an independent studio, Early Access is crucial for our self-funding and for ensuring the project’s long-term viability.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Crown of Hispania to stay in Early Access for at least 12 months, and quite possibly longer. As a small independent studio we would rather take the time to get the content, the balance and the AI right than leave Early Access on a fixed schedule, so the exact length will depend on how quickly we can deliver the systems we have planned for 1.0 and on the feedback we receive from players along the way.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“For version 1.0, we plan to ship regular updates that should let us offer better content and more comprehensive features to players. A great strategy game is defined by the complexity of its gameplay and its ability to let players discover and rediscover the game. We plan to add new game mechanics to enhance this experience, including:
- New in-game events
- Intrigue and espionage
- Improvements to the cultural and religious systems
- Addition of rebellions
- More economic development mechanics
- Easier modding
- Possibly new start dates”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Today, the game is fully playable and features complex mechanics related to the characters, military, economic, technological, population & province systems, as well as realm management.
However, this version has some shortcomings and modifiers that don’t trigger properly; this is one of our current priorities.
We’ve included a short tutorial to help you get started with the game, but of course, it doesn’t cover all of the game’s features.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to adjust the price when version 1.0 is released, but we haven’t yet decided whether the price will increase slightly and gradually with each major update during Early Access. As a result, the game should be more affordable during Early Access, since it lacks some of the features planned for version 1.0.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Since the launch of the Crown of Hispania project, we’ve been working with grand strategy player communities to define certain aspects of the game design. During Early Access, we also want to gather as much feedback as possible so we can set development priorities (maybe players would prefer rebellions over espionage networks?).
We mainly use our Discord server for this, but we also interact on Reddit and in the Steam community posts.”

About This Game

It is 1035 AD. Sancho III of Navarre is dead, his kingdom divided between his sons, and the great Caliphate of Cordoba has already shattered into rival taifas. The Iberian Peninsula is split between Christian kingdoms in the north and fragmented Muslim taifas in the south, and nobody in it agrees on who should hold it.

I’m not going to lie, it was a bit of a weird time, but hey, “Violence is sometimes THE solution” (an actual quote from a museum historian in France). So I guess it’s cool. 👍

As a noble of this tumultuous era, you’ll have to write your own legend. Every decision, whether made on the battlefield, in the council chambers or in the shadows of a conspiracy, will shape your dynasty and determine your place in history. Will you consolidate your authority over your lands, or let your vassals tear each other apart for power? Will you take back Toledo and Granada for Christianity, or negotiate a fragile coexistence with your Muslim neighbors?

Why this game is DIFFERENT :

“Inspired by Crusader Kings II and Europa Universalis IV, but with deeper population simulation and dynamic systems.”

-Trustable Person (me)

  • Fully simulated population: Every character, culture, and religion exists as a living population that grows, migrates, and reacts dynamically to your decisions.

  • Free army movement: Move armies freely across the map without province restrictions, enabling realistic strategies, flanking, and positioning.

  • One region, in detail: Over 300 hand-built provinces across Iberia and its neighboring regions, mapped to the real terrain, not a thin global scale.

  • Clever AI: The AI is designed to be challenging rather than passive, forcing the player to deal with difficult situations.

  • Dynamic battles: Unique engagement system, making battles more realistic and immersive.

  • Cooler: I have no idea if you will read all of this so just wishlist the game because it’s really cool.

What You Actually Do

  • Stare at the Map for hours: The most important aspect of a grand strategy game is to make you lose as much time as possible reenacting history and LARPing.

  • Expand your realm through war or diplomacy: Conquer territories through strategic warfare or secure your dominance with alliances, marriages, and political maneuvering.

  • Manage populations and religious tensions: Balance cultures and faiths within your realm as populations evolve, convert, and react to your rule... stability is never guaranteed.

  • Grow your country’s economy: Develop your lands through construction, increase trade value, and enact powerful decrees to strengthen your economy and sustain your expansion.

  • Shape history through dynamic events: Experience a world that evolves based on your decisions, where no campaign unfolds the same way twice.

  • Manage your court and receive missions from your Council: Oversee your court, navigate internal politics, and complete missions assigned by your Council to secure influence and guide your realm’s future.

Coming soon to Early Access

Crown of Hispania is early in development and actively evolving with community feedback.

We have completed a detailed topographical map with over 300 provinces, meticulously designed to reflect the diverse terrain of the Iberian Peninsula and its neighboring regions.

The core mechanics are fully designed for the Early Access, including advanced systems for Economy, Country Management, Technology, Court and Land Warfare, guaranteeing a richly immersive experience. Cultural and Religious systems will be basic and reworked after the Early Access launch.

With your support, we aim to refine these elements, improve AI quality and deliver a game that evolves with your strategies, creating an unparalleled grand strategy experience.
