What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Australia: Federation 1901 is being released into Early Access to allow the community to help shape the future of the game while core development continues.

The foundations of the game are already playable, including national economic management, politics, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, welfare, defence, housing, population growth, events, and elections. Early Access allows us to gather feedback from players on gameplay balance, mechanics, user experience, and historical authenticity while expanding the game's content and systems.

Our goal is to build a deep and engaging nation management simulator that spans Australia's development from Federation onward. Community feedback during Early Access will play an important role in prioritising features, refining existing systems, and helping guide the direction of future updates.

I believe releasing early will result in a stronger and more enjoyable game than developing in isolation until full release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We currently expect Australia: Federation 1901 to remain in Early Access for approximately 12–24 months.

The exact duration will depend on community feedback, feature development, balancing, and overall game quality. Our goal is not to leave Early Access as quickly as possible, but to ensure the game reaches a level of depth, stability, and content that meets the vision for a complete nation management simulator.

During Early Access we plan to expand existing systems, add new gameplay mechanics, improve the user interface, increase historical content, and continue refining the overall player experience based on community feedback.

If development requires additional time to deliver a better game, we will prioritise quality over rushing to a full release.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of Australia: Federation 1901 is intended to provide the core experience of governing Australia through economic management, politics, infrastructure development, social policy, and national growth.

Throughout Early Access, we plan to expand the depth, balance, and overall scope of these systems while continuing to improve the user experience and historical immersion. Areas of development may include additional policies, events, infrastructure projects, political mechanics, economic simulation, national objectives, and expanded long-term progression.

We also plan to continue improving the game's interface, performance, visual presentation, and overall gameplay experience based on community feedback and playtesting.

The full version is intended to offer a deeper, more polished, and more content-rich nation management experience while remaining focused on the core vision of guiding Australia from Federation in 1901 through an evolving alternate history shaped by player decisions.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Australia: Federation 1901 is currently in a playable and actively developed state.

The Early Access version includes the core gameplay systems required to govern Australia as a nation, including economic management, taxation, budgeting, politics, elections, infrastructure development, education, healthcare, welfare, housing, population management, defence, national projects, random events, and quarterly simulation progression.

Players can manage government spending, respond to national events, develop infrastructure, influence economic growth, maintain public approval, and guide Australia's development from Federation in 1901 through an evolving alternate history.

The game also includes a growing collection of ministry management panels, national objectives, election mechanics, event decision systems, save/load functionality, and ongoing balancing of economic and political systems.

While the core gameplay experience is fully playable, development is continuing throughout Early Access. Some systems may be expanded, refined, rebalanced, or receive additional content, visual improvements, and quality-of-life features as development progresses.

Players should expect an enjoyable and functional nation management experience today, while also understanding that the game will continue to evolve based on development priorities and community feedback.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not currently plan to change the price of Australia: Federation 1901 during Early Access.

We expect the full release version to be priced higher than the Early Access version to reflect the additional content, features, improvements, and overall scope added throughout development.

Players who purchase the game during Early Access will automatically receive the full release version and all updates released throughout Early Access at no additional cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback is one of the primary reasons Australia: Federation 1901 is entering Early Access.

We plan to actively engage with players through Steam discussions, community feedback, bug reports, feature suggestions, and development updates. Player feedback will help us identify balance issues, improve existing systems, prioritise quality-of-life improvements, and better understand which areas of the game players enjoy most.

Throughout Early Access, we intend to share development progress, gather feedback on new features and mechanics, and use community input to help guide future updates where it aligns with the overall vision of the game.

While not every suggestion can be implemented, community feedback will play an important role in helping us build a deeper, more polished, and more enjoyable nation management experience.”

About This Game

Build a Nation. Shape History.

Australia: Federation 1901 is a grand nation management simulation that places you in control of Australia from the very first day of Federation: 1 January 1901.

Guide a young nation through economic booms and recessions, political challenges, population growth, infrastructure expansion, social reform, and global conflicts. Every decision you make influences the future of Australia and determines whether the nation becomes a prosperous world power or struggles under debt, instability, and poor leadership.

History provides the starting point-but the future is yours to create.

Govern Australia

Take direct control of the federal government and oversee every major aspect of nation building:

  • Manage the national budget and treasury

  • Set taxation and spending policies

  • Respond to political events and public opinion

  • Balance economic growth against national debt

  • Invest in long-term development

  • Maintain national stability and government approval

Your choices have lasting consequences. A short-term gain today may create long-term problems decades later.

Build the Australian Economy

Create a thriving economy by balancing industry, trade, employment, and government spending.

  • Grow Gross Domestic Product (GDP)

  • Manage inflation and interest rates

  • Reduce unemployment

  • Support emerging industries

  • Respond to economic crises

  • Build sustainable long-term prosperity

A strong economy provides opportunity and growth, while poor management can lead to stagnation and financial collapse.

Develop National Infrastructure

Transform Australia through ambitious infrastructure projects.

Construct and expand:

  • Rail networks

  • Roads and highways

  • Ports and shipping facilities

  • Water infrastructure

  • Schools and universities

  • Hospitals and healthcare facilities

  • Public housing developments

  • National development projects

Infrastructure investments improve productivity, quality of life, and economic growth for future generations.

Shape Australian Society

The future of the nation depends on the wellbeing of its people.

Manage:

  • Education systems

  • Healthcare services

  • Welfare programs

  • Housing availability

  • Immigration policy

  • Population growth

  • Workforce development

Create a highly educated and productive population-or face the consequences of underinvestment.

Lead Through Politics

Political leadership requires more than balancing a budget.

  • Maintain public approval

  • Navigate elections

  • Respond to scandals and crises

  • Manage political stability

  • Introduce national policies

  • Balance competing interests

Public support can be difficult to earn and easy to lose.

Prepare for an Uncertain World

The twentieth century is filled with challenges and opportunities.

As Australia develops, you must prepare for:

  • Economic downturns

  • Population pressures

  • Natural disasters

  • Industrial unrest

  • Political instability

  • International conflicts

The decisions you make during times of crisis may define your entire legacy.

Rewrite Australian History

Will Australia remain a small regional nation, become an economic powerhouse, or forge an entirely different path?

Starting from the historical foundations of 1901, every playthrough creates a unique alternate history shaped by your decisions.

No two nations will develop the same way.
