About This Game

A Catalan Sword is a 2D RPG with turn based combat, where you play as a mercenary of the Byzantine Empire during the historical expedition of 1303. You start as a simple recruit, threaten by your own companion as well as your enemies. You will have to prove yourself by the sword and use your wits to gained the respect of your peers and raise among the mud. In the end surviving the battlefield and the nest of viper (aka byzantine court) would be a most than acceptable achievement for most. But for those who seek fame and fortune, the risks will definively provide greater rewards, beyond imagination.

A Singular RPG

This game is a RPG with visual novel dialogue style with a tactical turn-based combat, involving many variables, and a lot of events where your choices will determine your fate based upon your skills.

Survival

The purpose of this game is to survive and reach the end of the expedition. The game features severals survival mechanics with extensive usage of your attributes through perilous skill checks depending on the choices you make.

Turn Based Combat

The turn-based combat system involving many variables including characters’ stats and attributes, but also fatigue level, various traumas and injuries, morale, weapon reach, confined space and high ground. The combats are very tactical and a less experienced character can outsmart the veteran and beat them.

Choice and Consequences

All of the actions that your character takes will have in-game consequences. The NPCs will change their opinions of you depending on how you treat them and how you behave both inside and outside of battle. This in turn will enable or disable various future interactions with them and sometimes trigger special events.

Stats and personalisation 

Make good use of any loot or supplies that you got your hands on. A lot of them can be choose from a wide array of authentic medieval defensive equipment: from all kinds of helmets and armor to gorgets, bracers, greaves and chainmail stockings. All with varying qualities and characteristics.
