About This Demo

Venture forth! Play as a knight, sent out on a vital quest to find the origins of the Daemons! Explore the land of TORR, battle enemies in turn-based combat, and solve puzzles to reach the truth of what lies within the plateaus!

THE STORY

"For as long as humanity can remember, the world has been only TORR, a pair of lone plateaus that breach the sea of clouds. No one knows what lies below...

But recently... the land has become barren. And monsters, dubbed Daemons, plague the plateaus. The battle of Merona. A one sided slaughter of human demise. The eastern isle of known humanity, lost in a day...

You, sir knight! You must take on the quest that could save these lands. Find where these plagues originate from! Save our kingdom!"

THE BASICS

The game is simple, harkening back to the RPGs of the 80s! Venture out and uncover the towns, temples, and hidden locations within the plateaus!

On your journey, encounter dangerous foes randomly,

ATTACK! USE LEARNED SPELLS! CONSUME ITEMS! OR FLEE (If you can, that is!)

Defeat them, and level up your knight. Maybe even save some money to buy that sword you've been eyeing in town for the last hour!

And when you finally feel ready to tackle that area that's been a bit too tough... venture forth!

Scattered throughout the land of TORR are ruins with puzzles of many varieties, and epic rewards that can help you on your journey. Some of them can be out in the open in the dunes, or tucked away in a hovel. Surmise the solutions, and be rewarded with items, spells, money, or even knowledge on how to progress your journey!

Far away in the distant reaches of the plateaus lies ancient carved spires made of bone. No one knows what they do, much less have been inside one. Your gut feeling tells you they are of importance!

SOUND AND ART

Everything was made by one person: me! Hello, I'm tohomoko, a video game music composer! Before setting out on the journey that was making TORR, I composed for many indie games, and still do! What started as a "I could do this" moment after beating an... undisclosed jrpg... for the Gameboy turned into a full game project that I've been hand crafting for better part of a year. I hope you enjoy everything from the art, music, and programming behind it.

For the art, I tried to limit myself to the color palettes of the Gameboy color! Most of the tiles are limited to the four color constraints that the handheld had, but I break it a few times, har har!

Same goes for the music! I use the same limitations of the Gameboy color sound chip as well! Every track and sound in the game could technically be recreated on original hardware! I'll be uploading the Demo OST to platforms, so look out for that if you enjoy any of the music!
