About This Game

About This Game

Mom, I’m Really Learning English is a single-player, turn-based learning card battle game designed for players who are studying College English Test Band 4 and Band 6 vocabulary. The game integrates English words, phrases, definitions, and example sentences into the card battle process, allowing players to repeatedly encounter vocabulary while building decks, summoning characters, using skills, and completing battles.

Gameplay

The game uses a turn-based card battle system. Both the player and the enemy have their own HP and battle zones. Each turn, the player can choose a card from their hand and place it into a battle position, or use a magic card to influence the battlefield.

Characters summoned onto the battlefield will automatically attack the opposing position:

If there is an enemy card in the opposing position, the two cards will battle each other.
If the opposing position is empty, the character will attack the enemy directly.

Players need to choose the right way to play their cards based on current resources, card costs, positioning, the enemy board, and skill effects. Defeating the enemy’s main body wins the battle.

Word Cards

Each character card in the game corresponds to an English word. Cards display the word, Chinese definition, example sentence, cost, attack, HP, and skill description. Different words are designed as different types of characters and abilities according to their meanings and parts of speech.

For example, words with offensive meanings may be designed as high-attack characters, while words related to recovery, protection, or support may correspond to healing, defense, or resource-based skills. As players repeatedly view, draw, and use these cards, they will continue to encounter the related vocabulary information.

Card Types and Skills

The current version includes a variety of card effects, covering offense, defense, healing, control, resource generation, and special triggers. Some cards can attack multiple targets, some can restore HP, and some can trigger extra effects when they die, defeat an enemy, or receive damage.

The game also includes part-of-speech-based design. Cards with different parts of speech have different roles in battle. For example, verb cards tend to focus more on action and offense, adverb cards tend to provide enhancement effects, while other types of cards take on defensive, healing, control, or resource-related roles.

Game Goal

This game is not a traditional test-preparation app, nor does it promise to replace complete English exam preparation. Its goal is to provide a lighter and more feedback-driven way to encounter vocabulary.

Players can repeatedly see words, definitions, example sentences, and skill texts during card battles. Through drawing cards, summoning characters, fighting battles, and receiving victory feedback, players can increase the frequency of their contact with English vocabulary.

If you enjoy playing games and are also preparing for English learning, this may be a different way to begin your foreign language learning journey.
