What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“TL;DR: Fury Unleashed is coming together really nicely, but we want to make our game even better! You can help us do that with you priceless feedback! At the current stage of development it would take about 12 hours to complete the game. The price will likely increase as we develop and add more content to it.

We have spent three years on development, during which we’ve tested TONS of ideas, mechanics, and more. Finally, with our Early Access build, we have a game that brings together all the best design choices – the perfect playground for our dedicated players. We want to finalize the development phase with your direct assistance, because we know our great community can help push our ideas even further, and introduce ones we never even thought of!”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We intend to leave Early Access in first quarter of 2019. The game has improved a lot since its Early Access release in 2017, and we will spend the time left polishing it to make it the best game we possibly can.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Current version has three comic books fully done. With the final Early Access update, we'll add the storyline and the epilogue, which will be a bit smaller than a single comic book in terms of content. There will be many more features available for the player’s character too, including local co-op, weapons and more customization options. The sound effects will also get a complete overhaul.

And we’re planning to add more meta-systems to the game, like challenges, random events and additional game modes for extra replayability.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“As it currently stands we’ve got about 80% of the content slated for the full game. The first three comic book settings are complete, with all basic enemies, and three main bosses and nine mini-bosses each. All the gameplay mechanics are working well though, so we probably won’t change them. The same goes for art direction. The soundtracks for the first comic books are of final quality, while the rest will be replaced. Sound effects are mostly temporary or work-in-progress.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“At the end of Early Access the game will be much richer in content – we’ll add content throughout the game the epilogue, among other things, so it’s likely it’ll come with a slightly higher price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We believe that the community will be a great source of ideas for cool items, skills or random events that we could add to the game. We also want to create a platform where everyone can talk to us about anything – starting with general ideas, through balance tweaks, finishing at new features, etc. We really think that the community will help us make the final build of Fury Unleashed the greatest experience possible! You can reach us through our Facebook, Twitter and here on the Steam page. We’ll keep you posted about everything new to the game.”

Update #41 – Co-op mode now available – unleash the Double Fury!

Remember us promising that after Gamescom and some initial testing we’d make co-op available sometime in fall? Well, we’re happy to announce that the time is now, and local co-op mode has just been added to our game! So what are you waiting for? Download the update, call your fam, grab some snacks and drinks, find a couch to chill on, and show your enemies that you and your friend are an unstoppable duo!

What? Still reading? Hoping we have something else up our sleeves? Well, seems you know us all too well. You’re right, co-op mode isn’t the only add-on in this update. Here’s a list of other changes you can expect:
  • Secret locations to be discovered in random places in the game world
  • Special golden ink you can get by killing enemies or being a Destructive Fury on a level. You can spend the ink on additional equipment to help you to progress through the game
  • Elite enemies – not as strong as bosses, but more demanding than regular opponents – adding additional challenges to your playthrough
  • New NPCs you can meet and interact with on your way through the comic books
  • New tunes for the third comic book composed by Adam Skorupa and Krzysztof Wierzynkiewicz
  • As usual, some minor bugs were killed and some fixes were implemented

To play Fury Unleashed in co-op mode online using Parsec streaming, just follow the instructions included in the step-by-step guide prepared we’ve made just for you:
Fury Unleashed Parsec co-op guide

There, now you can stop reading and start playing. And once you’re done (for today of course), don’t forget to share your feedback via our Discord channel, Facebook, and Twitter!

Your feedback is really important to us – especially because we’re getting closer to our final release date with every day (early 2019, remember?), so every comment helping us making the game even better is priceless.
Keep on gaming!

August 7

The Badass Hero is now Fury Unleashed, leaving Early Access in early 2019, and about to get a local co-op mode!

We don’t often post updates here, but when we do, we make sure they are worth your time. And today you’ll need quite a lot of it to dig in and go through all we’ve prepared for you. First things first, however, let’s start with the most important piece of news for today, meaning the release date and the game’s title change. Yup, you’ve got that right. The Badass Hero is no more. Please meet Fury Unleashed, that will come to your PCs, PS4s, Xbox Ones, and Nintendo Switches in early 2019!

Now trust us when we tell you that changing the game’s title after we’ve already made it available in Steam Early Access was not an easy decision to make. Nevertheless, it had to be made after we heard many times that it’s causing unnecessary controversy and is a turn off for people who otherwise might have been interested in it. Furthermore, after months of development The Badass Hero’s art style changed so massively, that reflecting that change with a new name was a good idea to disconnect it from the first screenshots and trailers that were released in 2016. Last, but not least, we’ve experienced significant difficulties promoting the game due to some social media’s profanity filters. However, one thing that hasn't changed is the skill-based, action-packed gameplay with a combo system that will reward you for playing like a badass.

Okay, okay, the title changed, noted, what about the local co-op feature? When will it become available? We’ll be running some tests during this year’s Gamescom, and if all goes well, we should be able to let you experience some epic boss fights hand in hand with your best buddy sometime around fall this year. Keep an eye out for a more precise date that we’ll be posting in the next updates here!

Still starving for more good news? Great! How about we tell you that we haven’t really shown you all that awaits you in our game? And that there will be some secret rooms to discover along your heroic adventure? Check out our newest trailer for a sneak-peak of what’s to come. Just remember to watch it till the end. Good things happen to people, who don’t skip credits.

Finally, the cherry on our cake, especially for you music freaks out there. The new set of soundtracks for the second comic book from the Skorupa–Wierzynkiewicz duo is here. Check it out (right after you check out the trailer) and let us know what you think about both. Our Discord, Facebook, and Twitter are all open and waiting for your feedback!

About This Game

Fury Unleashed (*previously called The Badass Hero) is a rogue-lite action-platformer, where you play through pages of a comic book. Experience fast-paced hit-and-run gameplay. And never do the same thing twice, thanks to procedurally generated levels and random items. All in highly refined, modern, hi-res 2D art.

Somehow chaos has entered the comic book multiverse and your whole world has gone nuts. That’s how your story starts: You’re from a long-gone era, and were once a great hero, but now things have gotten worse – your powers have been lost! Your quest is simple, yet deadly – you need to write your story anew and relive your greatest accomplishments. Order will be restored when and only when you prove you are the true hero.

Your guns are your best friends, and ink is the new gold – collect it from defeated enemies to upgrade your hero. The more dynamic and forceful your play style, the greater the rewards! There’s a cost though – stay focused at all times, or you’ll die sooner than you think.

  • Comic book setting – dive into comic book reality with Metal Slug inspired visuals.
  • Action platforming with 360° shooting – jump, dash, shoot, slash and blow things up!
  • Procedurally generated levels – you’ll never know what waits for you around the corner.
  • Customizable character – take advantage of Steam Workshop and make the hero your own.
  • Permadeath with character progression – you’ll keep the collected ink even if you die.
  • Three unique comic stories to playthrough:
    - Face the awakening Evil God in "Quetzalcoatl’s Awakening",
    - Defeat the Nazis in "Operation Crimson Dusk",
    - Defend the Earth from alien invasion in "The Last Stand of Earth".
  • Lots of game-changing items and weapons – wreak havoc on your enemies with shotguns, machine guns, rocket launchers and other firearms. Don’t forget about defense too – choose the best armor possible!
