Overview

RE∀IVE is a 2D action metroidvania about fighting to restore Lily, your damaged AI companion, on Atrificia, an artificial island devastated by civil war. Switch between human and AI, combine abilities with parts, and uncover the truth hidden within the city.

About the Game

Atrificia is an artificial island where AI once managed the city’s infrastructure and resources. The distribution system that promised a fair life for everyone collapsed in the war sparked by a sudden AI rebellion. Control, fear, poverty, and suspicion now divide the city.

The protagonist, a former soldier, has only one family member left: Lily, an AI android who has been with him since childhood. But Lily has been severely damaged and can no longer move.

In search of parts and a way to repair Lily, he heads into the back alleys. An encounter with an unfamiliar engineer draws him through the power plant, sewers, black market, a vast waste-processing area, a ruined corporate district, and city hall, ever deeper into the city’s fractures.

What begins as a journey to repair Lily gradually follows the trail of missing people, concealed records, and buried truths. The protagonist confronts the dark secrets of the city and its civil war, and the question of what AI should mean to humanity.

- Protagonist (Player)

When the harsh realities of life put an end to his dream of becoming a programmer, he joined the military, half out of resignation. Military life suited him better than he expected, and he eventually joined a special operations team.

He grew up alongside Lily, an AI android created by his parents. But when he finally returned home after suppressing the AI rebellion, his parents were missing and Lily was completely wrecked, beyond his ability to repair her on his own.

He sets out across Atrificia to find someone who can repair Lily. And the truth he uncovers along the way...

- Lily

A household android created by the protagonist’s parents, both AI specialists, who has been with him since he was very young.

Built quite some time ago and without specialized housekeeping AI protocols, she makes plenty of mistakes. In their place, she has communication and memory functions that the protagonist’s parents put great care into developing, allowing her to hold complex conversations and express a rich range of emotions.

For some reason, however, she is now completely wrecked and unable to function. What could have happened to her?

- Engineer

She works as an ordinary bartender at a small bar tucked away in the back alleys, but rumor has it she is an engineer who can repair any machine.

After hearing about her by chance, the protagonist visits her bar to ask her to repair Lily.

Instead of charging him money, she begins asking him for all kinds of favors...

- Eletia

The leader of the anti-AI terrorist group that has occupied the power plant.

She is responsible for the recent spate of blackouts on the island’s outskirts and harbors an intense hatred of AI.

Switch Between Human and AI

Switching between human and AI lies at the heart of RE∀IVE.

The protagonist and Lily approach combat, movement, and exploration in different ways. A place one cannot reach, a barrier one struggles to break through, or a threat one finds hard to avoid may open into a new path through the other’s abilities. Switch to suit the situation, link movement with attacks, and turn the battlefield and terrain to your advantage.

Switching does more than change the character you control: it changes how you explore and the rhythm of combat. Revisit familiar areas after gaining new abilities to discover entirely different strategies and rewards.

Upgrade Your Way

Explore the city, overcome enemies and bosses, unlock new skills, and collect Bytes. With the engineer’s help, the resources you acquire can unlock new functions for the protagonist and Lily or strengthen their existing abilities.

Will you prioritize movement to reach places you cannot yet access, or improve combat abilities to face tough enemies and bosses head-on? The abilities you choose first change the combinations you can use and the course of your exploration.

New functions do more than increase your stats. They become keys to the next area, draw you back to places you once passed by, and help you develop your own combat style.

Exploration and Bosses

Powerful beings and forces that protect or occupy Atrificia await along its routes. Machines left over from the war, facilities that have slipped out of control, and factions driven by their own convictions each stand in the protagonist’s way differently.

Boss battles do not demand a single solution. Learn their patterns, combine the abilities you have prepared, and find an approach that suits you. Your strategies and upgrade choices shape how the journey unfolds and the impression its story leaves.

Explore a Ruined Artificial Island

Back alleys where crime and trade intertwine, a power plant with an unstable supply, sewers linked by hidden passages, a black market where goods and rumors circulate, a waste dump where enormous machines once processed refuse, and corporate ruins abandoned after the war.

Every area holds the scars of war and traces of the people who live there. Open paths, gather records, and retrace hidden memories to discover how Atrificia became what it is today.

RE∀IVE is a story that questions the relationship between AI and humanity.

Is an AI with memories and emotions merely a tool? What separates humans from AI? And does bringing someone back mean returning to the past, or beginning to make new choices?

Your personal journey to restore Lily leads to the truth surrounding the entire city. Your exploration and choices will lead you to different answers about Atrificia.
