How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the network with additional stations and routes across the UK. The scope of the final network will evolve based on development progress and community feedback. Early Access currently covers Scotland with expansion into England and Wales actively in development.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable now with: - Scottish rail network with 79 real stations across 6 regions, parts of England and Wales also mapped
- 9 train classes with distinct stats and running costs - Career mode with 5 progressive chapters, these will constantly be updated until I feel they are right.
- Sandbox mode with full freedom - Service creation with express and stopping patterns
- Dynamic passenger demand and satisfaction system - Station upgrades, tech research, and driver management
- Event system including weather, failures, and demand surges
- Built-in map editor for placing custom stations and drawing new lines
- Financial management with loans and daily revenue tracking - Save/load system with auto-save”

“No. The price will remain the same at full launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“The map editor is already in the game - players can place stations, draw routes, and build out areas they know best. I'll be actively collecting community-created station and route data to incorporate into official updates. Beyond mapping, player feedback will directly shape gameplay features, balance changes, and quality-of-life improvements. Discussion forums and bug reports on Steam are the best way to get involved. This is a solo project and every bit of community input helps make it better.”

About This Game

Build your railway empire.

Shane's Trains is a railway management simulation where you take control of a rail network and grow it into something great. Start with a handful of stations and a tight budget, and expand across the country - or build something entirely your own.            

Plan your network:

Connect real stations across the UK or place your own anywhere on the map. Lay track, design routes, and link communities together. The built-in map editor lets you create custom stations, draw new lines, and shape the network however you want.

Run the service:

Choose from 9 different train classes, each with distinct speed, capacity, and running costs. Create express and stopping services, set timetables, and assign drivers to keep everything on schedule.                                                                         

Manage the business:

Balance revenue against maintenance, fuel, and staff costs. Take out loans when cash is tight. Upgrade stations with extra platforms, retail units, and parking to boost passenger numbers and income.                                                               

React to events:

Weather disruptions, mechanical failures, demand surges, and tough decisions will test your management skills. Keep your reputation high and your passengers happy.

- Career Mode - Progressive chapters with unique objectives and challenges, building from a small branch line to a major network.

- Sandbox Mode - Generous budget, everything unlocked. Build freely with no restrictions.
