What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Creating a game like this involves a lot of balancing, which simply isn't possible without a large player base. We've also come to realize that we've been developing the game in isolation for some time, and now we're eager to build an audience to receive valuable feedback—both on the current gameplay and on features players would like to see.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan on being in early access between 3-6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to polish the current experience by improving animations, adding more visual effects, fixing bugs, and optimizing the game.

We intend to increase the diversity of enemies, weapons, and upgrades, ensuring each trip to the planet feels more unique and varied.

Our development will be player-driven, so priorities may shift based on feedback. For instance, we might focus on adding features like new planets or player customization instead of expanding the enemy variety if that's seen as more important.

While our core gameplay loop is complete, we intend for the final version of the game to be far more balanced.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current verison of the game has the full game loop implemented. You can drop down to the planet, navigate, aim, shoot and escape. Waves spawn an array of enemies that have different attack patterns and get harder to kill as the wave counter increases. Killing them increases your score and unlocks upgrades. You can also check the game description for more info!

There is a tutorial that tells you how to play the game.

There is a backend (via playfab) which stores your scores and level, this information is viewable in the rank section of the main menu.

There is an options menu that implements accessibility, graphics, audio and remapping settings.

Currently implemented features
Gameplay Features
10 different enemy variants
Ranked, Friends and Timed Leaderboards
50 unique powerups
A range of high powered weaponry including Rockets, Lasers and Mines
Fast paced movement and dodging
Smooth Traversal on a full 3D planet
Supports hundreds of enemies on screen”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, we will be setting the game at a lower price point while it's in early access and will increase it in price once we leave.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want to know what our players care about. Do they want more enemies, more powerups, different player ships, different planets? We just don't know but we want to!!

We'll be engaging directly with the community on steam forums and our own discord to get feedback on the game. We also plan on integrating some backend analytics so we can identify trends in the game.

We plan on taking votes to gauge what players want to see. We also plan on proposing different enemy designs and powerups that they can vote on.

We'll also be listening closely to player feedback and intend to push regular fixes and changes to improve their experience.”

About This Game

OBLITACRATER is a twin stick shooter where you fight endless alien monsters in increasingly difficult waves on a cute little planet!

There is only one goal in OBLITACRATER, increase your score. Each DROP to the planet adds to a single running score. You can end the drop at any time by pressing the BIG RED BUTTON at the top of of the planet which also locks in your score and adds it to your total. There is no end to the number of waves in OBLITACRATER. You last as long as you dare and then get out!

NOW HERE IS THE REALLY MEAN PART!!! IF YOU DIE, YOUR RUNNING SCORE RESETS TO ZERO. YOUR LEADERBOARD ENTRY RESETS TO ZERO and you are back to square one. Each time you drop to the planet surface, you risk your entire score, every time.

While surviving on the planet surface you have the opportunity to unlock upgrades for your ship. These range from stat boosts like increased move speed to secondary fire modes like rocket launchers, mines or laser bursts. You can also choose to unlock random upgrades, but be warned not all upgrades are friendly.

There is no end in OBLITACRATER so remember, ESCAPE! ESCAPE!!! ESCAPE!!!!
