You flip cards, look for matching pairs, try to keep their positions in your head, and race the clock while it ticks in the background. Make a mistake — that’s on you. Hesitate — also on you. Start clicking at random — the archive will quickly remind you that your memory is not nearly as impressive as you thought.

And that is exactly why it works. At first, you are just matching pairs. Then you start recognizing cards at a glance.
