Why Early Access?

“We have wanted to incorporate player feedback into our game from very early on in our development process. Based on the feedback that we have received during the 4 years of development, the game has always steered to a better direction.

With Steam Early Access, we want to expand our player base and receive a lot more feedback and ideas to make the game an even more fun experience for the fans of rogue-lite genre.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Currently the game needs to be in early access for about 6 months to get all planned features ready, but depending on the amount of bugs and feedback we will receive, it might be as long as 12 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We will be adding a second world to our game, that will take the average run time from 25 minutes closer to the sweet spot of just under one hour. Second world will feature around 20 additional monsters, that includes a mini-boss and a tough final boss.

There is also a secret level planned that will enable players to reach an alternate ending.

Based on suggestions and feedback we would like to add more activateable level structures, traps, more mini-bosses, perks and different level objectives.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“At our early access launch, the game will have:

- One world with 6 stages to explore.
- One tough boss fight and one mini-boss.
- Over 30 different monsters.
- 40 upgradeable items.
- 4 playable characters with different skill sets and Perks.
- Many achievements and challenges.
- 4-player local co-op.
- Full controller support.
- Customizable controls

Exploring perk choices with all characters, unlocking all items and trying them out should take the player several hours. Mastering the game and beating it with harder difficulty settings will probably take even longer.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“There are currently no plans to raise the price when the game leaves early access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want to work with our fans and community to better many aspects of our game:

We want Gerty to have an intense, tough but fair gameplay. If you feel like something in the game is taking the fun out of the experience, we would like to know! We want to tackle balancing from both ends, where the content feels too easy or too punishing.

Suggestions and ideas:
We would like to hear ideas how the game can be improved. We also encourage community to tell if they especially like some content and don't want it changed. We currently have more ideas for almost all systems in the game, but letting us know what kind of content you would like to see more helps us prioritize what we add to the game sooner rather than later.

Stomping them bugs:
As a small development team, we don't have enough resources to test our game with many hardware configurations and operating system versions, and there will be some configurations with issues. Sometimes issues may rise from our own mistakes. We want all players to be able to enjoy the game and reporting bugs and fixing those bugs is a priority for us.

Testing the second world:
We still have quite a bit of work to do to make the second world fully playable. Once we are confident that players can find enjoyment in its content, we will be first adding it as a beta branch, to gather feedback and to make the second world even more fun to play. When the second world gets out of the beta branch, we will most likely still keep the game in early access for some time to fix related bugs and balance issues that will get discovered when there are more players playing.”

Lunar New Year Update

Greetings mercenaries! While we're hard at work on World 2 (including some closed testing), we've kept a close eye on the discussion forums and the issues you've all been posting. Here's a list of the fixes and improvements we've pushed out recently:

  • Improved and fixed Steam Achievement unlocking
  • Mouse cursor is now hidden when using Gamepads
  • Improved 4:3 and 5:4 aspect ratio support

Other fixes
  • Fixed Monuments blocking off critical routes
  • Fixed Combat Shield being visible during stage transitions
  • Fixed Magnus Punch dealing less damage than intended to terrain
  • Fixed Shield Booster particle colors in co-op

End of the Year Update

Season's greetings to all! We've released a small update for both the demo and Early Access versions, mostly focusing on bug fixes.

  • Fixed players repawning outside the stages in co-op
  • Fixed Mega Bomber miniboss not being able to reach the player in certain cases
  • Fixed Panic Button & Pacemaker item related bugs

Other changes
  • Set default camera zoom to 3 (from 5) - you can change the zoom in the Options at any time
  • Made the Fog of War slightly brighter
  • Updated some particle effects
  • Grongo no longer rewards experience, but drops an Exp Orb instead

(Other minor fixes and improvements included as well)

We've also been hard at work on World 2, doing our best to get the first half of it playable, as listed in our roadmap.

About This Game

You are a member of an elite mercenary group. A mining colony of critical importance has become under attack by a hostile alien force. Armed to the teeth and equipped with your trusty laser-diggers, you must fight your way to the depths of the planet, find the source of the alien threat and eliminate it. Will you make it out alive?

Gerty is a top-down rogue-lite twin-stick shooter with fully destructible environment. Carve your own path through replayable procedurally generated levels and create tactically advantageous situations to eliminate the alien threat in intense, tough but fair, action packed gameplay. Mine Juice crystals to upgrade your gear, discover alien structures, and eliminate the source of the alien threat in singleplayer or local co-op mode.


  • Test your mettle in skill based combat and try to avoid clutches of permanent death. Adjust the level of challenge to your liking with 5 difficulty levels and advanced settings.
  • Choose between 4 different characters all with unique skills and style of play. Further customize your character during your run with perks and purchasable gear.
  • Explore collapsed Juice mines that are teeming with alien life and structures. Interact with abandoned infrastructure, alien runes and altars.
  • Unlock new gear and characters with each tightly packed run. Ramp up the difficulty and brave the dangers once again!
