What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We're doing Early Access because we have way more ideas we want to try out. It's great right now, but saying "WARNING! EARLY ACCESS!" is a quick way to communicate our desire to craft great input from Vive players worldwide into a beach ball legend.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We're going to do this Early Access collab with y'all all summer long.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We're interested in installing more elements in the world, possible adding more places to teleport, or fewer places to teleport if they aren't fun. We've got a chance to create fantastic, realistic, playable art. Do we make a low gravity mode? Do we ditch the storms? Do we make the grass greener on the other side? Do we need a runway with a fan that launches Beach Balls? A ping pong mode? I'm not sure! Do we need a night mode with glowing beach balls and fireflies? Do we need sculptures? Do you have a cool sculpture? Do we want to build the castle out of limestone? Should glass appear if players try to step off the wall? Do we need moss? What about a tornado that eats beach balls? Do we want achievements? Do we need a music visualizer that shoots you beach balls in sync with music? Should the castle play sound when you hit it in giant mode? Kitten Balls? Pizzas? Do we add a host of key commands for spectators to interact with? There's a lot we could do, but we want to keep it simple free form fun.

Oh, we'll probably also add an achievement for hitting a beach ball.

Beach Ball Valley is a carefully crafted, whimsical world. It is not an empty shell of a bigger game right now. We're not planning on making more maps, story campaigns, beach ball crafting, multiplayer or artificial elements. We'll probably ditch the score board in favor of a bi-plane dragging a score banner across the sky.

Our goal is to make this a peaceful valley for all the folks out there seeking to befriend beach balls.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Beach Ball Valley has everything you need for hours of fun right now. It has a warm sun, blue sky, sound, force feedback, visuals, beach balls, storm systems, teleporting, a minigame that tracks scores, and keyboard driven testing features that we've enabled to give players a chance to test out possible features of Beach Ball Valley. It has a few little surprises.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Price will probably not change as we leave Early Access.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Being a small development group means we can be very responsive. We'll be reading & responding to your feedback! We'll be having surveys, live chats, and discussions! We're excited to see all the unexpected fun Beach Ball Valley will bring. Stay tuned.”

About This Game

Seeing players smile as you hand them two giant pizza paddles never gets old. Sending a beach ball sailing over the hills is a magical VR moment, and we're casually developing Beach Ball Valley to share that with everyone. While it's primarily enjoyed in demos by younger audience, my Mom and Grandmother, it's highly tuned haptics & physics feel lovely. Professional business executives have lost themselves to the simple playfulness, and exclaimed "This is more fun than a room full of puppies!"

Beach Ball Valley is a timeless, hand crafted, free range, beach ball preserve.
You and your giant pizza peel* hands are invited to spend some time in the sun, batting beach balls, pilling 'em up, and just watching them roam around the countryside.

*(that's what a pizza paddle is officially called I guess)

There's apparently a game mode where you've got one minute to hit them through hoops for points and stuff. That's included in case people don't understand how fun just hitting beach balls around it. It keeps score for about 100 or 200 of your rounds (but doesn't save it!) in case you want to run it at a party and track high scores. Oh, did I mention that if you can use telekinetic powers in it, you can wow your friends?

But wait, there's more! There's a music game where you can tap in a tempo and hit beach balls along with any music you like, and a goalie game where you defend from an avalanche of 50 beach balls!

Since demos usually have many people waiting, we've added keys to play with and alter the world. I'll often let children play with their parents, swarm them with beach balls, and other silly things.

If two paddles & your head isn't enough, equip up to 9 tracker pucks for paddles on your elbows, feet, or anywhere you can affix them. (We do not take responsibility for trackers affixed to your cat.)

Frequently Unasked Questions:

Why pizza peels?

I like pizza. Also, they're great for reach out really far and hitting things. They also hit stuff really hard!

Is there a Beach?

There is not a beach. These are inland meadow beach balls.

Do the beach balls mind being hit?

Every beach ball dreams of flight, and their thick rubbery carapaces are suited for rapid acceleration.

How many beach balls can I have?

Once there are 100 beach balls, scientists believe they could develop a sentient network as well as flight capabilities. They'll head off planet in search of dull worlds in need of fun. The static electricity given off by beach balls may cause a spike in microburst storm systems. Sadly, 1% of beach balls are anti-social, and often leave.

Why are the clouds eating my beach balls?

Fredricko the Cloud believes that due to the non-biodegradable nature of beach balls, it's his duty to clean up after anyone who's made too many beach balls. He's also hungry. He's the one by the small hill, not to be confused with Gerando or Luis.

What's the Difference between seated / standing / roomscale?

Beach Balls come to you. Standing / Room Scale affords a little more space.

How do I get more Beach Balls?

Look at the paddles! They've got buttons everywhere! Push the buttons! Push all the buttons!
