What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Early Access will let us fine-tune the gameplay mechanics and expand content based on what the community actually wants to see - whether that's more Yokai, more cursed item cards, more boss variety or greater challenges. The communities feedback will directly shape the final game.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We’re planning for Yomi-no-kuni to be in Early Access between 2-3 months. If your feedback shows we need more time to add features, refine balance, or polish the experience, then we’ll adjust our plans to make sure the game launches in the best possible way.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version will include the core Yomi-no-kuni gameplay loop: the first 3 campaign levels, the main Heroes, Yokai, Item, and charm cards. However, there’s more we want to add before the full release!

We're planning for:
- Cursed mode - a daily cursed challenge run for players who wants a greater challenge with leaderboard support
- Remaining 2 levels from campaign
- Localisation - French, German, Spanish, Japanese and Simplified Chinese
- More creepy yokai inspired sound tracks
- Achievements
- Full controller support
- Additional yokai, charms, curses and item cards”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“With the current Early Access version:
- Players can experience the first 3 levels from the campaign
- 60 cards available to play, though some have to be unlocked through progression
- The shop and item crafting mechanics
- Yokai compendium where the player can read about the yokai's lore.
- Basic achievements and controller support”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Early Access is all about building Yomi-no-kuni together, and our Discord server will be the core of that process. It’s the easiest way to chat directly with the developing team, suggest or vote on ideas, and even get sneak peeks at upcoming features.

We’ll also keep an eye on the Steam forums. Your feedback will help us fine-tune everything and make sure the final game is the best game it can be!”

About This Game

Features

  • The Yokai Dream Team: Mix and match Yokai, Charms, and Cursed Items for endless build variety.

  • The Yokai Compendium: Immerse yourself in a world inspired by Japanese mythology with lore entries for every creature you encounter.

  • Elemental Affinities: Every Yokai carries an elemental power. Exploit type advantages for devastating 50% bonus damage, and stack matching elements on your field to trigger powerful synergy effects each turn.

  • Yokai Bonds: Field two Yokai who share a bloodline, tribe, or element and watch them empower each other — bonded pairs gain bonus attack for the rest of the battle.

  • Item Crafting Bonds: Combine items from your deck into a single upgraded version. Reduces deck bloat and creates unique hybrid effects.

  • Daily Challenge: Every day brings a new seeded run — same map, same choices for every player. Compete on Steam leaderboards and prove your mastery of the underworld.

The Underworld Awaits Your Command

The goddess Izanami descended into the Land of the Dead… and she never returned. Now, the veil is torn. Ancient Yokai wage war across cursed battlefields, and the silence of the underworld is broken by the ticking of the clock. In this roguelike deck-builder, timing is the difference between legend and oblivion.

The Battle of Seconds

Forget traditional turns.

  • The Counter System: Every Yokai card acts on its own internal timer. When the counter hits zero, they strike.

  • Tactical Positioning: Place your units on a side-by-side battlefield where proximity and timing collide.

Forge Your Legend

Start with a lone hero and a meager deck, then harvest the power of the dead to grow your army.

  • Collect & Evolve: Discover dozens of unique Yokai, each with abilities that can chain into devastating combos.

  • Cursed items: Apply Frost, Rage, and Poison — or drop a curse that pins enemies in place and blows them apart. The rules exist to be broken.

  • The Charm System: Permanently augment your favorite cards with Charms.

A Map of Shifting Shadows

Navigate a branching underworld where every node is a gamble. Will you seek to avoid conflict or accumulate power at every chance? Every path leads deeper into the dark, culminating in boss battles against legends like the eight-headed Yamata-no-Orochi or the skeletal Gashadokuro.
