What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to provide players an opportunity to help shape our game whilst we continue to develop it. This also allows players to provide feedback on crucial bugs and features that need refining and addressing.
We are doing this to ensure that Project Doll is released in a stable and well designed format that is driven by our players.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan on Project Doll being in early access from roughly 1 year to 18 months. Once released we will focus on bug fixes, additional QoL updates and possibly DLC.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The differences between Early Access and a final release will be significant, with much more planned in the way of story features, easter eggs and interactions, driven by player feedback and suggestions.
We plan for many of these newer features to be added during Early Access, however we have some end game features that are only planned for an update when we leave Early Access”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“We are currently in a mid development stage with the environment built and early interaction features usable. The story aspect of the current build is fairly short, though complete up to a certain point.
We will be updating and adding more content as we hit milestones throughout development, with a number of new areas to explore and further development of the overarching story.

Players are able to explore the prologue area and environment, searching for clues amongst rooms and corridors. Players can examine and interact with objects throughout the level, to uncover more information relating to current objectives. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to increase the price of Project Doll once we are out of early access. This increase will not be outrageous, however this price increase should reflect the development progress we have made whilst providing new players with an easy access point into our game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We want to keep the community involved throughout the Early Access timeframe, taking your suggestions, feedback and criticisms into consideration as we press on with the rest of the games development.
This is important to us as we feel that players are important to the development of our game and can help us push our projects in the right direction.”

About This Game

Project Doll is a Single player, Soft horror, Exploration game set in a rural Japanese school beset by a supernatural curse that has you finding clues, solving puzzles and uncovering the cause of the curse.

Inspired by games such as Silent Hill, Resident Evil series and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, Project Doll uses Japanese folklore to provide a mystery for the player to uncover.

Premise:

An expat British Journalist in Japan seeks respite from hectic urban life in Tokyo and a new source of inspiration for his writing, he sets out alone to drive into the countryside, with a Ryokan lined up for the night. However, on the hunt for a good story and fuelled by strange stories from the locals, he finds himself on the trail of an abandoned building nestled deep in the forest. When heavy rain leaves him stranded and without a phone signal, he is forced to go on foot, soon stumbling upon an abandoned school building.

Follow his story as he uncovers the mystery behind the schools closure and the stories of the students and staff that once attended the school through objects left behind. Strange anomalies and writing appearing on blackboards that were clean earlier. There is the sense that the place is not as untouched as he previously thought…

Gameplay:

Explore an unsettling environment, searching for clues hidden among the rooms and corridors that tell of those who once walked this place.
