Custom Mode Available Now!

Custom Mode allows players to modify the game's rules. Giving them the ability to reduce the game's difficulty while they get to grips with the game.

In this mode you can disable bosses & enemies, slow down the game speed, make enemies and bosses easier, enable "Experimental Weapons", and more!

This new game mode aims to improve the game's accessibility while also including some fresh new features for long-time players.

We recommend playing without Custom Mode to start with.

Challenges, Achievements, Unlocks, Leaderboards and Stats are disabled in Custom Mode

There's also some new items in regular mode for you to enjoy! :steamhappy:

v1.3.0 Change List
  • Custom Mode!
  • New items!
  • More magic items in the arena shop!
  • Items collected is no longer shown on game over screen since it doesn't contribute to your score
  • Bleed Resist has been replaced by Magic Resist in the character stats page of inventory, since bleed resist is always 0%
  • Lightning Blessing now does not deal killing blows
  • Orcs are staggered if they are hit during their ranged attack wind-up

  • Fixed olive hair showing as "undefined"

Update v1.2.2

Hello! Just a few tweaks and fixes in this update, but there's some new features coming in another update next week!

If you have any issues with this new version, please post in the Bugs & Issues section of the Steam forums:
The game running in a new engine & unlocking the game speed from the frame rate may potentially cause issues, so let me know!

v1.2.2 Change List
  • Updated to GMS2 from GMS1
  • Game speed no longer locked to frame rate
  • Saves are backed up every time the game is started
  • Dynamic Camera Split in co-op mode no longer splits during boss fights

v1.2.2a Change List
  • Fixed Red Turban showing as "undefined"
  • Fixed Iron Face orbs not breaking out of their shells
  • Fixed move_index related error

v1.2.2b Change List
  • Added an "alternate" branch
To access, right click on Caveblazers in your Steam library -> Properties -> Betas tab -> select "alternate" from the dropdown menu -> Close
  • Fixed "second index out of bounds" error
  • Fixed some display settings issues
  • Fixed Ankh effect not ending sometimes

v1.2.2c Change List
  • Fixed Spectral Blade error

An earlier version (v1.2.1) is also available on the previous_version branch, which has almost all of the changes from v1.2.2, but is still running in GMS1 - in case you have issues with the GMS2 version.

Oh, and also I've rebranded from Rupeck Games to Deadpan Games! There's a new website here: where you can subscribe to a mailing list to hear about future stuff if you want.

The grumpy chicken is dead. Say hello to the... skull in a frying pan...?

“Caveblazers is the best Spelunky-like game since Spelunky”
Rock Paper Shotgun

“A dynamic mixture of Spelunky and Risk of Rain”

“A really cool roguelike platformer”

About This Game

Caveblazers is an action focused platformer roguelike set in a fantasy world. Each game is unique with procedurally generated levels to explore and a massive amount of items, weapons and equipment to discover.
The game takes place in a recently discovered cave, said to hold "unimaginable power". You play as an adventurer setting out to explore the cave and find out what riches it holds. However, you are not the only one...

As you delve deeper in to the cave, you'll discover new areas to explore, new weapons and new monsters to try them out on.

Smart Characters!

Throughout your journey you will encounter AI characters. Some friendly, some hostile. We're using an advanced pathfinding system which means friendly characters will be able to follow you wherever you go, and hostile characters will be able to track you down wherever you hide. There is no escape. Be afraid!

Platformer Roguelike!

Caveblazers is a modern platformer which incorporates some Roguelike and RPG elements such as permanent death, randomized potion identities, an RPG-style inventory system and tons of items, equipment and upgrades!

Daily Challenge Runs!

Each day a new adventure will be generated! It will be the same for everyone and you'll only get one chance at it! These challenge runs give you a starting loadout, and feature a set of different traits.

Epic Boss Battles!

Between each area you'll encounter a boss. Each boss is very unique, requiring a different strategy to defeat. Bosses are generally gigantic monstrosities with life bars stretching across the entire screen. Good luck!

Character Customization!

A whole load of unlockable hats, tunics, trousers, robes, and more! Or perhaps you fancy stripping off and heading in to the caves in the nude? Go for it!

Compelling Combat!

Largely overlooked in other modern Roguelike games, Caveblazers attempts to move away from the simplistic combat systems we've seen in other games in the genre, and incorporates fun, fluid and fast-paced combat which is accentuated by the game's brutal and persistent blood effects.

In case that isn't enough content, Caveblazers features a bunch of challenges for the well seasoned players to take a punt at. These challenges reward players with new items, weapons & perks!
