An OpenXR API Layer and SteamVR utility that translates physical body motion into virtual locomotion input. Works with SlimeVR trackers and smartphone-based setups via OSC and UDP protocols.

What It Is

BodyWalkVR installs as a registered OpenXR API Layer, extending the SteamVR runtime's input pipeline. It receives rotation data from body-mounted trackers and injects precise locomotion vectors directly into SteamVR — enabling hands-free movement in any SteamVR or OpenXR-compatible title without per-game configuration.

Technical Features

  • OpenXR API Layer — Registers as a system-level OpenXR extension, loaded automatically by the SteamVR OpenXR runtime on Windows.

  • SteamVR Input Hook — Injects locomotion input directly into SteamVR's controller pipeline. No game modifications required.

  • 4 Output Modes — SteamVR Hook, VRChat OSC, Xbox 360 Controller (ViGEm), or Keyboard WASD.

  • OSC + UDP Protocol Support — Receives tracker data from SlimeVR (OSC) or BodyWalkTracker smartphone app (UDP).

  • Optimized C++ Core — Sub-millisecond sensor filtering. Configurable linear/exponential response curve.

  • Physical Jump Detection — Detects real-life vertical acceleration and maps it to in-game jump input.

How It Works

  • Layer Registration — Installs as a Windows OpenXR API Layer, registered in the system registry and loaded by the SteamVR runtime automatically at launch.

  • Sensor Data — Receives high-fidelity torso rotation via OSC (SlimeVR) or UDP (BodyWalkTracker). Sub-millisecond precision.

  • Input Injection — Translates lean angles and jump impulses into locomotion vectors, delivered through SteamVR input, OSC, or emulated gamepad.
