What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We chose Early Access because Trail & Error is a co-op, systems-driven game that benefits heavily from player feedback. Balance, difficulty, pacing, and the overall “fun chaos” of a run are things that are best refined with a real community playing together. Early Access allows us to iterate alongside players, improve the core experience, and shape the game based on how people actually play it with friends.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Trail & Error to remain in Early Access for approximately 6 to 12 months. This timeframe gives us room to meaningfully expand the game, respond to community feedback, and refine existing systems without rushing development.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version of Trail & Error is planned to expand on the Early Access foundation with more content, depth, and polish. We plan to add additional trail content, more random events, expanded survival systems, improved balance, and overall quality-of-life improvements. We also plan to improve performance and stability and continue tuning the co-op experience based on player feedback.

While the core goal of reaching the end of the trail will remain the same, we intend for the full version to offer more variety, replayability, and refinement than what is available at the start of Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access version of Trail & Error is fully playable from start to finish. Players can complete full runs that last around two hours, experience randomized events, manage food, health, and illness, travel with a physics-based wagon, and play cooperatively with up to four players using proximity voice chat.

While the core gameplay loop is in place, the game is still actively evolving. Some features may be limited in scope, balance is ongoing, and players may encounter bugs or rough edges as development continues.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to offer Trail & Error at a lower price during Early Access. As new content, features, and improvements are added over time, we plan to gradually increase the price to reflect the growing scope and value of the game.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community feedback will play a major role in the development of Trail & Error. We plan to actively gather player feedback through Steam discussions, bug reports, and community channels, and use that feedback to guide balance changes, feature improvements, and overall direction.”

About This Game

Trail & Error is a chaotic co-op survival game for 1–4 players where poor decisions, bad luck, and questionable teamwork are just as dangerous as the trail itself.

Travel together across an unknown frontier, manage limited supplies, survive unpredictable disasters, and try not to abandon your friends when things go wrong. The goal is simple: reach the end of the trail alive.

Survive the Trail (Together… or Not)

Every run is a shared journey filled with dynamic events, environmental hazards, and tough choices. Food runs out. Illness spreads. Weather turns hostile. Your wagon breaks at the worst possible time.

When disaster strikes, you’ll have to adapt on the fly or deal with the consequences.

Physics-Based Chaos

Movement and interaction are driven by physics, turning everyday tasks into unpredictable problems:

  • Haul supplies and manage a physics-driven wagon

  • Navigate rough terrain and environmental hazards

  • Watch plans fall apart in the funniest ways possible

The physics won’t always kill you, but it will make things complicated.

Talk It Out (or Yell About It)

With proximity voice chat, coordination matters especially when things start going wrong. Expect frantic callouts, bad ideas, and arguments that feel all too familiar.

Key Features

  • 1–4 player online co-op

  • Physics-based wagon and character movement

  • Randomized events and dynamic weather

  • 4 Different map biomes

  • Survival based mechanics

  • Resource management: food, health, and illness

  • Proximity voice chat for immersive (and chaotic) communication

Trail & Error is about teamwork, survival, and the comedy that comes from everything going wrong at exactly the wrong time.
