About This Game

About This Game

Will returns to Awakewood to bury his mother and sell the family home before the next bus arrives. Instead, he finds an isolated town under endless rain and a forest creeping over the edge of the property.

The night before leaving, Will finds a girl with no memory tangled in roots and mud. Choosing to shelter her until the road clears, he shuts himself inside a house that is decaying from within, as memories he thought he had buried begin to surface.

In this first-person psychological horror visual novel, the story unfolds through Will’s eyes: a quiet, matter-of-fact internal voice clashing against the physical breakdown of a house that warps by the hour. Every choice nudges the stranger toward human connection or total surrender to the woods, in a domestic mystery where no decision is free and there are no easy escapes.

Awakewood is a standalone, intimate horror story about grief, guilt, and the cost of refusing to be alone.

A house that offers no shelter

Rain beats down on the roof and mud stains the outer walls. Inside, the floorboards creak underfoot, the air smells of old damp, and the stain on the ceiling grows wider every night. The house does not keep the outside away: it rots alongside everyone inside it.

The dread of living together

It all begins in the daily routine: sitting down to eat with a stranger pulled from the mud, noticing she never feels cold, and dealing with her strange behavior as she does whatever it takes to keep you from leaving her behind.

Three ways to tell the story

What the screen hides, the sound reveals; what the sound leaves unsaid, Will’s mind tries to work out. The visuals show the house breaking down, the audio tracks whatever moves in the dark, and Will’s thoughts follow a practical man trying to keep things in order so he doesn't have to face what is right in front of him.

Four endings: who pays

No affection meters, no pop-up stats. The story shifts based on how you treat her: whether you help her live like a person or let her slip back into the woods. Four separate endings where nobody wins cleanly, and someone always has to pay the price of not being alone.

The town clock

The bus passes every Thursday at 7:10 AM. It is the only way out. But with each passing night, stepping through that front door gets harder—and by the time the next bus arrives, the house will not be the same.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Awakewood is a psychological horror visual novel featuring unsettling imagery of distorted nature and unusual organic growths. The game focuses on an atmospheric experience of tension and visual horror.

It contains a scene with non-sexual partial nudity, where a character is strategically covered by environmental elements and vegetation. This depiction is purely artistic and narrative, integrated into the forest's aesthetic. The game does not contain sexual acts, sexual violence, or drug use.
