About This Game

You are the King.

But this country does not run on your will alone.

Each turn, two petitions rise before the throne.

You type the first or the second (or answer anything by keyword), and the realm responds.

Every decision echoes forward—backlash arrives next turn, rumors spread, the treasury dries up, the people suffer, and authority fractures.

I WAS a King is a self-contained, replayable governance simulation played through natural-language decrees.

The court speaks: the Scribe, the Left Councillor, the Right Councillor, and—on rare occasions—reclusive scholars.

Rules decide outcomes. AI writes the court’s voice and counsel, but the system remains deterministic and consistent.

And if the scribe keeps twisting your orders?
You may dismiss the scribe and appoint a new one.

There are no flashy graphics. No endless grind.

Only responsibility, records, and judgment.

At the end—success or collapse—the court will deliver its final assessment.

History will remember you.

And you will become… WAS.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

AI is used to generate the voices and advice of two opposing royal advisers (Left and Right Councillor). Each turn they comment on the situation and recommend different actions. If the player’s decree aligns more closely with one adviser’s stance, that adviser’s credibility increases while the other’s decreases.

As the credibility gap grows, public trust is affected, reflecting rising factional tension. If an adviser’s credibility reaches zero, they resign—sometimes angrily—warning the player not to dismiss their counsel. The vacant seat is then filled by a successor adviser, represented by a different local LLM model. This creates shifting personalities and advice styles across runs.

AI does not determine the game’s outcomes. Core consequences and metric changes are resolved by the game’s rule system; AI provides narrative and guidance within that system.
