What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Gloom is a solo-developed psychological horror project with a solid core, but the journey through Büyükada is not yet complete. I am using Early Access to expand the game's world, add more layers to the mystery, and evolve the horror mechanics based on how players experience the terror. This period will allow me to build a more expansive and polished experience than I could achieve alone.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I plan for Gloom to remain in Early Access for approximately 2 to 3 months. As a solo developer, this timeframe will provide enough time to incorporate community feedback, add new story chapters, and ensure the game is as polished as possible before full release. I intend to remain flexible with this schedule based on development progress and player suggestions.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to feature a significantly expanded map of the island, additional story-driven puzzles, and more complex AI behaviors for the threats encountered. While the Early Access version focuses on the initial arrival and search, the full release will include more environmental storytelling branches and a more comprehensive ending to the father's journey.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game features a playable version of the core story where a father arrives on the island to find his daughter after a plane crash.

Jumpscares, dynamic lighting (flickering lights), and atmospheric horror elements are currently active in the system.

Core mechanics such as the note-reading system, camera zoom feature, save/load system for battery and health stats, and security cameras are fully functional.

The game world, developed with Unreal Engine 5, provides the basic gameplay loop, and localization infrastructure for languages like Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean has been established.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not plan to change the price of the game after Early Access.

Gloom is a project developed by a solo creator, and we believe the current price is fair for the experience offered and the technical improvements planned.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I want players to be more than just bug testers; I want them to shape the atmosphere. I will be active on the Steam Discussion forums and Discord to listen to player theories and feedback. This input will directly influence the design of new puzzles, the placement of narrative notes, and the pacing of the horror elements to ensure the final game is as immersive as possible for the community.”

About This Game

A FATHER'S GREATEST TEST

Can an ordinary farewell turn into a father's worst nightmare? When you put your daughter on the plane, you couldn't have imagined it would be not an end, but a dark beginning. Your world crumbles when the "Plane Crash" news appears on the television screen, only to learn that the crash occurred on a mysterious island, hard to find even on maps.

You are determined to go alone to that island, which official rescue teams dare not go to, and about which chilling legends are told, in order to get your daughter back. All you have is a flashlight, a camera, and unwavering hope.

Can you pull your daughter out of that darkness? Or will the island swallow you too?

Gameplay & Core Features:

  • Limited Light & Battery Management: Your flashlight is your only ally in the dark corridors. But be careful; your battery can run out at any moment. You must scavenge for batteries to survive the shadows.

  • Survival Struggle: You are not alone on the island. Stay alert against lethal creatures. Find medical supplies to heal your wounds and manage your health to stay alive.

  • Eight Magic Keys: To uncover the secrets behind the locked doors, you must locate 8 mystical keys hidden across the island.

  • Power & Generator System: When you encounter obstacles blocking your path, you'll need to restore power by finding the necessary fuel and activating mechanisms within the environment.

  • Camera & Zoom System: Utilize your camera to scrutinize environmental clues or spot hidden details in the shadows. With zoom-in and zoom-out functionality, you won't miss even the smallest piece of evidence.

  • Atmospheric Horror & Surprises: Experience the chilling atmosphere of Büyükada with unpredictable jump scares and special animations designed to keep you on the edge of your seat.
