Highland Trip contains depictions of psychological horror, including sustained tension, threat, and fear. As part of the narrative, the player character forages for and consumes psychoactive mushrooms. The effects of these mushrooms are represented through stylised, non-realistic visual and audio distortions intended to convey altered perception rather than realistic drug use.

The game explores the negative psychological consequences of consuming psychoactive substances within its story and does not promote or glorify drug use.
