About This Game

In Zaya: Rise to the Gods, play as Zaya, a young warrior whose fate will become entwined with that of the gods themselves. Explore the different lands of this action-adventure game, learn about Maya culture, gain new abilities to grow stronger, and protect her home from the curse that plagues both humanity and the deities.

Deep in the jungle of Chichén Itzá, players will take on the role of Zaya, an orphaned girl who has witnessed the devastation of her village at the hands of the Aztecs and the Spanish, under the influence of a powerful curse capable of corrupting even the gods. Zaya will embark on a quest to uncover the origin of this curse, facing all kinds of challenges and battles against deities that will push her beyond anything she ever imagined.

World

  • Corazón de la selva (Jungle’s heart)

The adventure starts here! Traverse the jungle while dodging obstacles and trying to survive the wildlife of Zaya’s world, always on the lookout for predators hidden in the undergrowth. Explore ancient temples wrapped in vines, face their mysterious inhabitants, and raid Castilian encampments. Every path will lead you to new dangers, and every ruin will reveal fragments of a lost story that only the bravest dare to unearth in these wild lands.

Territorio Usurpado (Usurped territory)

This is one of the regions controlled exclusively by the Castilians, a stronghold from which they spread their dominion. They are also building a great temple in honor of their God, an imposing structure that showcases both their ambition and their faith. Clergymen, soldiers, dogs, and slaves will all fight to protect their settlement, defending every wall with determination. Assault their ramparts, explore the most hidden corners, and uncover the secrets held within this new temple, whose true purpose still remains in the shadows.

  • Refugio Quebrado (Broken Refuge)

Far beneath the surface lies Shattered Refuge, where its traps, magma, and fire are not the only dangers we will face. Guardians watch over this ancient temple, filled with creatures that protect its ancestral power, hidden among collapsed passageways and chambers that seem to defy time. Every corner of this place breathes history and hostility, forcing us to move forward with caution as we unravel the secrets left behind by a lost civilization, whose power still pulses beneath the burning rock.

  • La Ciénaga (The Swamp)

A constant rain is the welcome we receive as we enter this bleak, muddy environment. The endless downpour has turned the ground into a quagmire full of puddles that hinder Zaya’s progress and attract creatures lurking in the shadows. Life is scarce; the flora is infected by a kind of putrid, foul mold that fills the area with its spores, creating a filthy haze that wraps around every path and threatens to consume everything in its wake.

  • Profundidades de Coral (Coral Depths)

Descending through the sacred cenotes, we find the Coral Depths, a dimension where only the worshippers of the god Chaac can hope to survive. Underwater caves, sea beasts, currents and whirlpools, and the occasional visitor from above await in this flooded realm, where light barely manages to filter through the waters. Every step requires precision, as the echoes of the ancient god still resound in the tides, guarding forgotten secrets and challenging all who dare to venture into his domain.

  • Ciudad del Sol (Sun’s City)

The City of the Sun, ruled by Yax Mo’ Tuun, is one of the most populous, wealthy, and bountiful places in all of Yucatán, where its slaves bear the cursed gold. In this Maya polis, once full of people and life, an unsettling calm now reigns under the rule of dark powers. Those who were once citizens and merchants are now mere puppets, infected by the Curse of Gold.

  • Cenote de los Susurros (The Nature Well of Whispers)

At the heart of the majestic pyramid in the City of the Sun lies a mysterious natural well: the sacred cenote that, according to legend, marks the entrance to the gate of Xibalbá. This magical place, shrouded in an aura of ancient mysticism, becomes one of the most eerie and foreboding locations in the game. Its deep waters whisper lost stories, and the shadows around it watch every step of those who dare to enter.

Enemies

More than 90 different enemies await you, inspired by the fauna and flora of Yucatán, as well as various Maya warriors and Castilian troops, each with their own behaviors, patterns, and abilities. Observe, learn, and adapt in order to survive them. In each biome you’ll face different mid-bosses and a final boss, allowing you to unlock abilities that help Zaya complete her journey.

Skills

Throughout her journey, Zaya must earn the favor of the Gods to unlock different abilities that allow her to progress through the story. Mastering these abilities not only helps her explore each biome, but also expands her combat options and adds finishing moves to make your battles more visceral. By collecting the Aluxes hidden throughout Zaya’s world, you’ll be able to customize your abilities to match your playstyle.
