Reviews

“Critical Chaos is a game that wears its influences on its chest. It uses its inspirations to evoke an experience reminiscent of a bygone era of RPGs. This is an easy recommendation for anyone who grew up with a Super Nintendo or original PlayStation and wants to return to that style of game. For those who did not, but still enjoy RPGs, Critical Chaos has plenty to offer. It has a full-length story, a meaty postgame, and tons of options for building an effective team. The game is also more forgiving than many 90s-era RPGs while still encouraging player agency and exploration. Overall, Critical Chaos does exactly what it sets out to achieve: a return to form for those who have missed the classics.”
8/10 – A.W.

About This Game

Statera was already at war before the strange things started happening.

An ambitious empire spreads through force, fear, and the promise of safety through control. Cities are falling. Borders are failing. Monsters stalk roads that used to be safe. Ancient powers are stirring beneath the conflict, and time itself is beginning to fracture.

This is not another morally gray anti-hero story.

It is about family. Ordinary people thrust into extraordinary circumstances.

A middle-aged hero and former martial artist whose journey begins with a simple goal: find missing family.

Not chasing glory.

Not seeking greatness.

Out of shape. Tired. Stubborn. Imperfect.

When the world starts falling apart, the choice is simple: stand and fight, or watch everything you love disappear.

HEROES WHO STAND WHEN THE WORLD BREAKS

Critical Chaos is a story about flawed people forced into impossible moments.

Your party is made up of family, veterans, misfits, warriors, outcasts, and people carrying wounds that do not appear on a status screen. They argue. They fail. They doubt themselves. Some are angry. Some are afraid. Some are barely holding themselves together.

They are not legendary champions. They are ordinary people doing their best in a world that keeps getting worse.

But when everything they love is on the line, they stand.

Not because destiny demands it.

Not because victory is certain.

Because walking away is not an option.

A RETURN TO CLASSIC RPG ADVENTURE

Critical Chaos is inspired by the RPGs that defined the SNES and PlayStation eras: games built around adventure, exploration, meaningful progression, and the freedom to build a party your way.

Discover hidden quests, optional challenges, powerful rewards, and secrets waiting beyond the critical path. Explore because you're curious, not because a quest marker tells you where to go.

Built with modern conveniences and reduced grinding, Critical Chaos captures the spirit of classic RPGs while remaining approachable to both veterans and newcomers.

A WAR THAT BECOMES SOMETHING FAR WORSE

The war for Statera is only the beginning.

Imperial conquest reshapes the world, but older and stranger forces are moving beneath the surface. Ancient bloodlines, hidden kingdoms, supernatural horrors, celestial powers, demon's fire, strange technology, and fractured time all collide as the journey unfolds.

The deeper your squad pushes into the conflict, the more they discover that the war itself is only one piece of a much larger threat.

TURN-BASED COMBAT WITH REAL SYSTEMS

Critical Chaos features a deep turn-based combat system built for players who want more than basic attack, magic, and item loops.

Enemies are visible on the map. No random battles. Every encounter is one you can see, prepare for, or avoid.

Combat features turn-order management, counters, taunts, stealing, shield blocking, tactical skills, and party-building decisions that reward planning and experimentation. Inspired by classic RPG combat, the system adds modern tactical depth without sacrificing accessibility.

BUILD YOUR SQUAD YOUR WAY

Shape your main characters through class changes, subclassing, stat investment, and cross-class skill progression.

Experiment with builds. Mix roles. Create specialized party compositions. Discover powerful combinations and approaches that fit your style of play.

Whether you prefer balanced teams, overwhelming offense, defensive tactics, or unconventional strategies, Critical Chaos gives you the freedom to build the squad you want.

CHOICES, CONSEQUENCES, AND NO EASY ENDINGS

Critical Chaos is not a story that neatly wraps itself up when the credits roll.

Choices accumulate throughout the adventure. Hidden paths can change what you discover. Multiple endings reveal different outcomes for Statera, your companions, and the forces moving behind the war.

Some victories come at a cost.

Some costs are not immediately obvious.

EXPLORE A FRACTURING WORLD

Travel across a large world shaped by war, ancient mysteries, and broken time.

Explore cities, wilderness, ruins, hidden locations, and dangerous roads. Use vehicles. Uncover hidden quests. Push beyond the main path. Jump, swim, climb, and search for secrets across Statera and beyond.

Optional discoveries, powerful rewards, and meaningful side content await players willing to explore.

For players who enjoy additional depth, the world itself provides the tools to survive. Mine ore, grow crops, fish, forage, cook, smith, and craft through an ingredient-based system that rewards exploration without demanding endless grinding.
