What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Our technology—an in-game overlay powered by on-device LLMs—is new and requires active playtesting on a wide range of hardware. While we understand the theoretical limitations such as VRAM size or architecture constraints, we need real-world data to refine performance and stability across different systems.

Our goal is to build a tool that genuinely improves players’ gaming experience, and the only way to achieve that is by listening closely to the community.

We’d like to invite AI optimists, modders, and enthusiasts of on-device LLMs to try the technology early and share their feedback with us.”

Approximately how long will this software be in Early Access?

“We expect to remain in Early Access until Q3 2026.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to support a wide range of hardware, including NPUs (e.g., Snapdragon chips) and custom drivers for various architectures such as ROCm for AMD GPUs.

We plan to enable an SDK that will allow game developers to build custom connectors between their games and the Assistant—for example, sending game or player data (level, class, location, etc.) and receiving tool calls from an LLM agent.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access build already includes the core functionality of Tryll Assistant and is fully usable with a selection of supported games. Here’s what it can do today:

- Downloads Large Language Model automatically and installs all required drivers or runtime components to run it locally.
- Scans your Steam library (and can work with custom games as well — just avoid games with anti-cheat).
- It lets you connect the Assistant to any title by placing a .dll in the game directory.
- For supported titles, Tryll Assistant comes with game-specific knowledge based and custom prompts.
- Runs as an in-game overlay, activated via a hotkey, where you can chat naturally and ask questions about the game at any moment.

These games already have dedicated guides.
- Minecraft (OpenGL. 3rd party launcher is required, and DLL has to be placed next to jawav.exe)
- Oxygen Not Included (DX9)
- Rimworld (DX11)
- Schedule I (DX11)
- Stardew Valley (OpenGL)
- Total War: Warhammer III (DX11)
- Valheim (DX11 / Vulkan)”

Will this software be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“No. The product will remain free for gamers.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We run a Discord server and social channels where we gather feedback and discuss new features with players. We will also support community-driven knowledge bases, such as custom game guides uploaded through Steam Workshop.

Throughout Early Access, we plan to run structured playtests using different LLMs (e.g., Gemma vs. Qwen), launch beta features, and iterate based on player feedback—for example, testing crafting-recipe insertion into chat and other experimental tools.”

About This Software

Tryll Assistant is an in-game overlay assistant powered by a local AI model that runs directly on your PC and answers game-related questions in real time.
The assistant is activated with a hotkey and opens as an overlay chat right on top of your game.

No more tabbing out, searching through browsers, wikis, or forums.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

We install open-source AI models directly on your device and run them locally, offline.
An internet connection is used only to download the models.
All processing stays on your machine, we don’t collect any personal data, and we have no access to your chats.

System Requirements

    Minimum:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 11
    • Processor: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 5 2600
    • Memory: 8 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GPU ≥8GB VRAM (RTX 4060 8GB, or equivalent)
    • Storage: 5 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: Minimum specs support 3-4B parameter models. For optimal performance, install smaller models which use approximately 4GB VRAM and provide fast response times suitable for real-time gaming assistance
    Recommended:
    • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
    • OS: Windows 11
    • Processor: Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 7 5800X
    • Memory: 16 GB RAM
    • Graphics: NVIDIA GPU ≥16GB VRAM (RTX 4080, RTX 4090, or equivalent)
    • Storage: 15 GB available space
    • Additional Notes: Recommended specs support 10B-14B parameter models for enhanced AI quality. Larger models (14B+) provide more sophisticated responses and better game understanding but require 14GB+ VRAM. Choose model size based on your GPU: 6-8GB VRAM = 3-4B models, 12GB VRAM = 7B models, 16GB+ VRAM = 14B models
