About This Game

Note: The "DEMO" version is the same as the full game and will remain identical in future updates. It will always be free to enjoy the game (and learn biology), but purchasing the full game to support the developers is also welcome.

Explore the Cell

Embark on an adventure inside an algal cell. Journey through its expansive microscopic world, uncover hundreds of proteins. Jump, fight, solve puzzles, catalyze reactions, and perhaps discover why you find yourself within this cell in the first place.

Game Features

  • Immerse yourself in a hand crafted microscopic world built using experimental data from cryogenic electron microscopy/tomography, volume electron microscopy, X-ray crystallography, and sequence based structure prediction.

  • Solve puzzles designed based on mechanisms of biological processes to reach new areas and unlock hidden content.

  • Experience a narrative-driven storyline that unfolds throughout your adventure. Reveal the secrets hidden inside the cell.

  • Catalyze biochemical reactions in multiple cellular metabolic pathways. Discover diverse molecules and (be forced to) learn cell biology in the game.

  • Enjoy breathtaking visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5, showcasing the intricate and crowded cellular environment at atomic resolution.

Current Stage of Development

Currently, players can explore the mitochondria, the endoplasmic reticulum and the chloroplast in the game. Inside the cell, there are 100+ different proteins and many other collectible items to be found. This should account for about 50% of the total content in the final release. More areas will be released soon (or slowly) depending on the developers’ level of procrastination.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

Some protein structures shown in the game are predicted by AlphaFold, an AI-based tool. The description for some proteins shown in the museum are polished by Gemini and verified by a human for scientific correctness.
