What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“ONCE HOME is currently in pre–Early Access, with 3 of the 8 planned sections of the Hemm residence already fully realized. When the game enters Early Access — expected around February 2026 — it will feature approximately 5 to 6 sections, representing most of the core story and world design. The remaining sections, along with possible voice-overs, character video sequences, and expanded tooltip systems, are planned to arrive in the full release expected a few months later.

Early Access will give me the opportunity to refine immersion, test performance across systems, and evolve the game based on your reactions. Your insights will directly influence the final tone, rhythm, and emotional impact of ONCE HOME, helping me ensure the finished release captures the experience I’ve envisioned — and the one you’ve helped shape.

I’ve chosen Early Access because this stage of development is best guided by player feedback — how you move through the house, which moments linger, and where the pacing or atmosphere can deepen. ONCE HOME relies on emotional tension and subtle discovery, and I want to see how those experiences truly land for players before finalizing the rest of the journey.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Current plan is to release Early Access in February of 2026, followed by the full game release around March / April 2026.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“By the time EA launches in Feb 2026, it most likely will have 5-6 sections of the Hemm house to fully discover. The full version currently has 8 planned sections, which will expand the story, taking the player to different parts of the Hemm house. ”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“In the current state, the first three sections of the playable area have been fleshed out and fully finished. Some existing elements and story beats might change / evolve to be more immersive, dreadful.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. ONCE HOME will launch in Early Access at a lower introductory price to reflect its in-progress state. As development continues — with new sections of the Hemm residence, additional mechanics, and expanded immersive features — the price will gradually increase to match the full scope and quality of the final release.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“As players explore ONCE HOME, I’ll be listening closely to their impressions — what moments linger, what emotions surface, and where immersion can be deepened. Feedback on atmosphere, pacing, or subtle details that heighten the emotional experience is especially valuable.

While the story’s core vision will remain intact, suggestions that meaningfully enhance immersion or presentation may be integrated as development continues. A community Discord server will be launched alongside Early Access, where players can share feedback, report bugs, and discuss their experiences directly. The invite link will be shared on the game’s Steam page once available.”

About This Game

Once Home is an interactive 3D horror visual novel of slow dread and haunting beauty. You explore the Hemm residence at your own pace — observing, hovering, and uncovering traces of what has quietly altered the family and the place they once called home.

Burl and Eunice built this house with love — a refuge for their son Orin, his wife Hazel, and their child Rulon. For years, it was where the family came to feel whole again.

But something unseen lingers — patient, consuming, reshaping everything it touches. The air remembers. The rooms breathe. And the warmth that once filled this home now stirs with something unknown.

The deeper you step into the Hemm house, the more it asks of you — to feel, to face, to go further than you thought you would.

Mature Content Description

The developers describe the content like this:

Some sequences may feature blood, ritual or medical procedures, and disturbing imagery. There is no explicit sexual content or nudity, though certain narrative elements may reference alien or distorted biological forms.
