About This Game

Loneliness can be too loud. And salvation can be too quiet.

Description

Mistbound is a surreal narrative adventure about overcoming trauma, where the line between reality and dreams is blurred.

Mitya, a high school senior, cannot come to terms with the death of his younger brother. His world has collapsed, plunging him into the silence of an empty house and a cold relationship with his parents. His only salvation is his friends, creativity, and first love. But his pain gives birth to bizarre worlds: trains in his bedroom, talking clouds of light, and dreams that become more real than reality.

This is a story about finding rays of hope in the fog of grief and learning to feel again.

Characters

Mitya is a sixteen-year-old boy of average appearance, with blond hair and blue eyes. He is a tenth-grade student with good grades. His style is deliberately unfashionable: he prefers a restrained palette of black, white, and beige, with his favorite color, red, always providing the only bright accent.

Alice is a seventeen-year-old eleventh grader, a model student and the life of the school, with light hair and clear blue eyes. Behind her reserved exterior lies an active, positive person: she runs the school newspaper, and her determination commands respect.

Oksana Valeryevna is a teacher with light brown hair who, due to a shortage of staff, teaches both Russian language and computer science to tenth graders. She is known for her sharp and demanding character, but she can be lenient with students she likes.

Maya is a fifteen-year-old classmate of Mitya's, who became close to him in tenth grade. Her strict dark-haired beauty and brown eyes betray her non-Russian origins. An impeccable student and role model, she nevertheless carries a complex inner world hidden behind her outward perfection. Her mother is a Russian language teacher, which adds extra depth to Maya's character.

Ilya is Mitya's 17-year-old classmate, a stocky, blond-haired boy with short hair and problem skin. He has long been the class bully, and although everyone remembers that this change happened abruptly after a certain incident, the details themselves have been erased from memory, leaving only his current aggressive role.

Key Features

  • A two-layered visual narrative—on the one hand, the recognizable gray reality of residential areas, on the other—flashes of surreal visions: golden fields of sunflowers, alien snowdrifts with two moons, flights over the night city.

  • Poetic surrealism, where the boundaries between reality, memory, and dreams are blurred. Everyday life turns into magical realism: trains in the bedroom, chandeliers frozen like unshed tears, ghostly clouds speaking of love.

  • An emotional soundtrack combining minimalist piano compositions for lyrical scenes and disturbing atmospheric soundscapes for surreal episodes.

  • A system of organic choices, where each decision is not just a plot twist, but a reflection of the character's psychological state. Run after the bus or accept it? Intervene in a conflict or remain silent? Each choice reveals new facets of character.

  • A relationship system where subtle choices (ignoring a classmate or lingering on her) have delayed consequences, gradually revealing the network of connections between characters.

  • Character voice acting. Russian voice acting for the main characters turns the visual novel into an emotional performance where every sigh and pause matters.

  • Emotional artifacts — old photographs, children's drawings, notes — are not just collected, but carry emotional weight, revealing the characters' traumas and dreams.

Game Development Plans

Contents of the first episode (Exit First): The first episode will serve as a powerful introduction to the world and story of Mitya. It will include:

Prologue: Immersion into the atmosphere and introduction to the inner world of the main character.

Introduction: Players will meet the key characters (Maya, Alice, Ilya) and witness an event that turns Miti's life upside down. The episode will end with a tense choice or an unexpected discovery, leaving room for development in the second part.

Gameplay

An example of the gameplay players can expect from the game:

  • Emotional consequences - Choices affect the character's psyche, not just the plot

  • Exploration as self-discovery - Examining objects = exploring memories and traumas

  • Psychological puzzles - “Piecing together thoughts” to understand the character's consciousness

  • Multilayered narrative - Hidden artifacts reveal alternative interpretations of the plot
