About This Game

The Devil Card is a solo versus card battle game played on a 3×3 grid, inspired by Final Fantasy VIII’s Triple Triad.

How to Play

Each match begins with you selecting five cards from your collection. Each card has four numeric values, one on each side, which determine its strength against adjacent cards. You take turns placing cards on the 3×3 Grid. When a card is placed next to an opponent’s card, the numbers on the touching edges are compared. If your card’s value is higher, the opponent’s card is flipped and changes color to indicate which side currently owns it.

Battles are played over two rounds, with all nine grid cells filled each round. At the end of a round, the side controlling the most cells wins that round. In case of a draw, the round is replayed and no side is awarded the win. Winning both rounds allows you to choose one card from your opponent’s deck to add permanently to your collection. This process repeats across the campaign, gradually expanding your deck and enabling more complex strategies in later battles.

Special Rules

Each opponent in the campaign can use a unique combination of official rules. The game includes the following rulesets:

  • Open: All cards are visible from the start.

  • Random: Card positions are shuffled at the beginning of each round.

  • Mirror: Cards with the same values touching each other are flipped.

  • Plus: Cards are flipped when the sum of adjacent values matches another sum on the board.

  • Combo: Flipped cards may trigger further flips in chain reactions.

  • MirrorWalls: Functions like Mirror, but board edges act as A walls.

  • Elemental: Cards have elemental types, with strengths and weaknesses influencing flips.

Each battle’s rules are clearly visible before the match starts, and in Freeplay mode, you can enable any combination to practice or create custom challenges.

Campaign Mode

The Campaign mode tells a linear story in which you face 25 unique opponents.
Each opponent uses their own set of rules, keeping battles varied and challenging you to adapt your strategy each time.

By winning duels, you unlock cards from your opponents’ decks, gradually expanding your collection.
There are over 300 unique cards to collect in total, so completing your collection may require multiple battles and careful strategic choices.

As you progress, you learn to master the different rules and build increasingly effective strategies to tackle tougher challenges.
Your ultimate goal is to defeat the Devil, earn his soul card, and complete the campaign.

Freeplay Mode

In Freeplay mode, you can use all the cards unlocked in the campaign and freely configure the rules for your battles.

This mode does not affect the story’s progression and is ideal for testing strategies, experimenting with rule combinations, or simply playing at your own pace.
