What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Eyes of the ElderWood offers a significant portion of the gameplay that will be available in the final version. At launch, three levels will be accessible, with more added over the course of development. Core mechanics in their initial visual and gameplay forms, such as the sanity system and ritual casting, will also be included.

Because we are a small studio player feedback is crucial to us, and many aspects of Eyes of the ElderWood will be shaped based on it.

The goal of Early Access is to give players the chance to experience our game in an early stage of its creation and help us catch bugs so we can fix them as quickly as possible. At the same time, we’ll ensure variety in content and provide regular updates so players always have something to do in our game world during testing.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to release the game around Halloween 2026. We believe about a year is the optimal timeframe to finish Eyes of The ElderWood, and we want to avoid falling into “eternal Early Access,” especially since we already have plans for our next project.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Our goal for early acess is to contain roughly half of the game, with the second half arriving on full release. Amount of content might change during development.

For full release, we’re planning 8 levels, usually consisting of at least 3 sub-levels each, every one with unique demons — a total of 16 (or even more). Each level will feature its own theme and challenges. The game will also include 4 spells that players unlock gradually, the complete story, an expanded sanity system, optional collectibles, and all the QoL improvements needed to ensure the best possible experience.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The content available in Early Access will be continuously expanded and polished. However, on the day Early Access launches, we want players to have access to at least 3 levels (including sub-levels), 2 spells, 1 boss fight, several different types of puzzles, around 5 different enemy types, an initial sanity system, and a dialogue system.

This content will help us evaluate the length and quality of the levels, while also allowing us to thoroughly test the systems that will be present in the full game.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, we do plan to raise the price once the game leaves Early Access, but we’ll announce details closer to launch.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We’re counting on the community during Early Access to help us identify both QoL improvements and bugs so that the final release is as polished and trouble-free as possible. Feedback is important for us so don’t be afraid to say what you like about the game and what you don’t.”

About This Game

Eyes Of The ElderWood is a first-person adventure horror inspired by Kashubian folklore. Drawing from regional myths, beliefs, and rituals, the game explores a world where old stories have never fully disappeared. As you investigate places shaped by superstition and forgotten traditions, folklore begins to take a more literal and dangerous form.

Combat combines magic and firearms, allowing you to adapt to different situations. Spells are drawn by hand and can be used both during combat and when interacting with the environment. They can reveal hidden elements, manipulate objects, or weaken supernatural threats.

For more direct encounters, a revolver provides a conventional way to fight back. Using both tools together becomes essential as enemies react differently to magic and physical weapons.

The creatures you face come from Kashubian beliefs, myths, and local legends. Each demon has its own appearance, behavior, and backstory. Some can only be harmed with magic, others require a specific approach, and a few cannot be killed at all, forcing you to understand how they behave rather than simply confront them.

Explore a variety of locations, from abandoned villages and forgotten houses to dense forests and places shaped by local superstition. Each level introduces its own visual identity, mechanics, and enemies.

As the game progresses, environments begin to feel less stable and increasingly unfamiliar. Areas that first appear grounded in reality may gradually shift toward something more surreal, changing how you approach exploration and survival.

The game recreates the technical style of early 2000s titles through vertex lighting, giving environments a distinctive old-school look. This visual approach is combined with audio design that uses a bitcrusher effect to mimic the compressed sound quality typical of games from that era.

Your mental state also affects how you experience the world. Certain demons feed on your psyche, slowly altering your perception. The sanity system can introduce visual distortions, unsettling sounds, and hallucinations that make it harder to distinguish reality from illusion. In extreme cases, loss of sanity can trigger unique sequences that push the experience into increasingly disturbing territory.
