What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Character customization has been done in many ways before—some games excel at cosmetic options, others at gameplay build diversity, and some let you literally build from blocks or pixels. With <<Defectant>>, our goal at Fyrus Tech is to create the ultimate character creator—a system that strikes the perfect balance between cosmetic variety, gameplay depth, and user-friendliness. The entire experience of Defectant is built around this core mechanic.

Building such a deep and unique system takes significant time, and more importantly, it requires player input to truly perfect. That’s why we’ve chosen Early Access.

During Early Access, we aim to refine and expand the character creation system based on community feedback while also adding gameplay that complements it—battling diverse enemies made of parts, collecting those parts to enhance your own build, and layering in survival and RPG elements.

Our commitment is to keep developing Defectant hand-in-hand with the community so that it can grow into the dream game we envision together.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We plan to fully release the game around half a year to a year after the game is released as EA.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The completed version is planned to have lots more parts with actual functionalities you can see in enemies as well as use them on your own characters, as well as actual game narratives, survival elements etc.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The Early Access contains the completed core mechanic, allowing players to freely assemble their characters with the given parts (the number of parts are rather limited at the beginning of EA, and is planned to be added gradually). Players are also able to give their characters a test run on how they move and fight, battling enemies, collect their parts and improve their own characters. Other than the core mechanic part, we provides a first glimpse into the world and narrative, but other game mechanics (such as survival elements and RPG elements) can still be none to minimal.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes, the initial price will be low as a thank you for the early supporters, the price will rise gradually as more contents are put in.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have been actively monitoring feedback from our player community as we've continued building and improving every aspect of Defectant.
We have our official Discord server and Bilibili channel, linked from the game client, offers a place to leave feedback, and we also check feedback here in our Steam discussion forums, and wherever else we can find public discussion about the game. We expect to keep making many changes and improvements inspired by our player community, and reflect these in our patch notes.”

About This Game

Defectant is a modular action-RPG where you can freely assemble your character— eye, leg, jetpack or even a cannon. Every part you attach comes with unique properties that shape how you fight, move, and survive. ALL parts from defeated enemies can be collected and used to upgrade yourself - you can literally "arm" yourself.

You're thrown into the Pit, a brutal region where beings like you—cobbled together from leftover parts—are forced to fight for sport. Losing a match won't kill you, but if you want to rise through the ranks, you'll need more than brute force. Train hard, sure—but smart fighters win before the fight begins. Scout your opponents. Exploit their weaknesses. Bribe them. Sabotage them. The on-stage fight is merely the final act; what you do off-stage are equally important to turn the tide of victory.

Beyond the fights, the Pit has a life of its own. You (and potentially your team) will need to earn your food for the stomach (or oil for your engine), the roof on your head (or your processor), whether through the post-insurance&taxation prize money, or other means. To survive and make sure you are at prime condition before fight is as important as the fight itself. Other gladiators face the same struggles just like you, so overtime they form factions, forge uneasy alliances, and pursue their own goals. Will you join them to gain favor, or walk your own path? Will you rise through the ranks to earn your freedom, build power within the Pit itself, or escape through other means entirely?
