What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Due to the complex nature of the combat, as well as some other gameplay elements (Tournaments, Enemy NPCs), the game will be in Early Access, until I gather enough feedback to polish everything to perfection.
On top of this, I am a solo developer, so I need the funding from early access release, to continue implementing ambitious features.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game is planned to come out of Early Access within 6 months after launch. This is very realistic, since most base systems required for full release are already programmed, all that's left to do, is scale, test, and polish them.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“In addition to general polish, I plan to add more game modes, and expand on the core gameplay loops.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Early access has the core fighting mechanics implemented, tested, and polished.

It has a full Tournament gamemode with multiple sub-gamemodes (Duel, 1vs10, FFA, Boss Fights, etc.).

However, the Dungeon Crawling Story mode isn't yet present. That is under development, and will be developed until the full release, using the early access funding.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. After the game comes out of Early Access, the price will be at least doubled, since it should be a more polished game, with more features, and more time/effort spent on it.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Community is actively encouraged to leave feedback about the game, which greatly helps me understand what works and what doesn't, improving the game as a result.”

About This Game

Fechtbucher - Uber-Realistic Medieval game, with Melee Combat based on Physics. Participate in tournaments, or explore the dungeons to uncover a dark story. Master guards and strikes inspired by HEMA, straight out of medieval guidebooks.

Realistic Combat

The combat is heavily inspired by HEMA (Historical European Martial Arts). All of the animations and combat mechanics are designed, taking into consideration medieval guidebooks (also known as Fechtbucher) about melee combat.
With intuitive controls, you can switch between multiple stances, and strike from any direction.

Dark Storyline

Fechtbucher features game modes purely focused on combat, where you won't be distracted by any other game mechanics.
But it also has Dungeon Crawling game mode, where you will uncover a dark storyline full of mysteries.

Gore

To provide an authentic medieval experience, Fechtbucher incorporates realistic gore. Whether it's cutting off heads or limbs, or breaking bones, you will feel the full impact of close combat.
