What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Obsidian Tower is developed by one person in their spare time. Early Access lets players get their hands on the game now and help shape it while it is still flexible. We want feedback on balance, difficulty, which game modes and upgrades are the most fun, and what content players want next. We are committed to updating the game regularly and seeing it through to a full 1.0 release.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Roughly 18–24 months. Because this is a solo, part-time project, the timeline may shift, and we will keep players updated through Steam announcements.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand the game significantly before 1.0, including:

- Fully custom artwork: we plan to work with a dedicated artist to replace the current placeholder art with a unique visual style made for Obsidian Tower
- New maps and additional game modes
- New turret types, enemy types and bosses
- More run upgrades and a deeper permanent upgrade system
- Balance passes driven by player feedback
- Audio, UI and performance polish, plus features such as achievements

Exact content will depend on what players enjoy and ask for during Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is a rough but fully playable tower defense game, available on Windows and macOS. It currently includes two game modes, multiple maps, a range of turret and enemy types, and an upgrade system between waves. All current artwork is placeholder art licensed from asset stores, and we plan to replace it with custom art before 1.0. Expect ongoing balance changes and occasional bugs. See the "About This Game" section for a full feature list.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to raise the price as major content is added and at the full 1.0 release. Buying during Early Access gets you the game at its lowest price, and all future updates are included.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback will directly decide what we work on next. Bug reports and suggestions are welcome on the Steam Community discussion forums, which we read regularly. Each update will be announced through Steam news posts, with patch notes explaining what changed and which player feedback it addressed. We plan to post periodic development updates so players can see what’s coming and weigh in before features are finalized.”

About This Game

The tower must not fall.

Portals tear open across a hex-grid battlefield and an army marches on the Obsidian Tower: peasants, soldiers, wizards, and the Black Knight himself. Every path is generated fresh, every run is seeded, and every wave is bought from a growing budget.

Build, combine, adapt. Place Crossbows, Flamethrowers, Poison and Ice towers, Tesla coils and Mortars, then block and bend the enemy's route with boulders and fences. Damage types and statuses work together: soak them in rain, shock them for extra damage, chill them, set them burning.

Draft your run. Every few waves, pick from a hand of run cards: flaming, frost, storm or venom bolts, piercing shots, rapid fire and dozens more. Reroll a bad hand and banish cards you never want to see again.

Grow between runs. When the tower finally falls, spend banked XP across the upgrade lattice: starting gold, bigger drafts, rerolls and per-turret upgrades.

Watch it back. Every run can be replayed, and you can cut your best moments into clips and export them as video.

  • Roguelike tower defense on procedurally generated hex paths
  • 8 buildable turrets and blockers, 6 damage types, layered status effects
  • ~80 run cards and ~50 permanent upgrades
  • Seeded weather that changes the battlefield
  • Adjustable game speed, take direct control of a turret
  • Built-in replays and video clip export

Early Access
Obsidian Tower is in active development by a solo developer. Everything listed above is playable today on Windows and macOS. Current artwork is placeholder art licensed from asset stores; we plan to replace it with custom art made for the game, alongside new maps, turrets, enemies and upgrades. Feedback on the Steam forums directly shapes what comes next.
