About This Game

The Matter of Being is a relationship and resource management game set in Weather Factory's Sixth History (Cultist Simulator, Book of Hours). In it, you take on the role of an otherworldly being who casts aside their immortality in order to be born into the waking world.

To do this you will befriend, beguile, and blackmail your way through the practitioners of the Invisible Arts. They want your power, and you'll give it to them, but every bargain grows your presence in the city. Can you amass the power needed to escape the Mansus once and for all, or will you lose yourself to the implacable will of the Hours?

Relationships are Key

Who are you to the mortals that summon you? A vengeful God? A guiding spirit? How you present yourself shapes how you interact with the mortal world. Exploit this fact, and the relationships between mortals themselves, to grow your influence throughout the city and gather the power you need.

One City, Many Lives

What drives a spirit to give up immortality? The answer is never the same. As you play The Matter of Being, you'll explore familiar characters in unfamiliar light as your motivations align and clash with theirs. A friend in one playthrough may be your rival in the next.

Outwit the Hours

You are pursued, in one way or another, by powers far greater than you. It will require careful strategy — and terrible sacrifice — to escape them. Will you be able to turn mere mortals to your advantage? How far will you go without adopting their weaknesses?
