Why Early Access?

“I’ve involved the community in development since the initial Pre-Alpha release, and it’s been both encouraging and invaluable. Feedback from players—whether bug reports, feature suggestions, or general impressions—has helped shape the game’s direction. Knowing people are actively playing the game also motivates me to keep improving it.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“The game will remain in Early Access throughout its Alpha and Beta stages. While it’s hard to predict exactly when it will reach a fully polished state, I plan to maintain consistent development. My current estimate is 1 to 2 years.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to expand significantly in scope and depth. Future features may include:
  • Multiplayer (official servers and P2P)
  • Anti-cheat systems
  • Extensive modding support, including a dedicated modding application
  • A fully explorable Earth map with varying tile densities
  • All characters playable (character: an NPC with significant influence, as opposed to populations that are grouped together by similarities)
  • Complex simulation systems (population growth, political sentiment, economics, trade, logistics, rebellion mechanics, etc.)
  • A dynamic responsibility = difficulty system where players can delegate power to NPCs at strategic risk
  • Succession, dynasties, and diplomacy systems influenced by family ties and marriage
  • A historically inspired timeline, potentially focused on the 20th century
While all features are subject to change, the goal is to create a deep, flexible grand strategy experience with layered complexity beneath a manageable interface.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is currently in Pre-Alpha. The Early Access version will launch when the game reaches Alpha, at which point it will be a playable but in-progress version.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The price will increase with major milestones. It will start at a lower price in Alpha, rise again in Beta, and increase further upon full release. Players who purchase the game early will receive all future updates at no additional cost.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Players can share feedback, bug reports, and feature ideas through my Discord server, which has dedicated channels for each. I also interact with the community through TikTok and YouTube, responding to comments and incorporating community feedback into development wherever possible.”

About This Game

Of Crowns & Chains is a solo-developed grand-strategy sandbox where every battalion (1k soldiers), nation (Europe only for now), and populace is represented and dynamic on a seamless spherical Earth. Lead a nation of your choice in January 1914 and influence the course of your nation and history as time marches onwards.

CURRENT FEATURES

  • True-Sphere Map (Europe) – No flat-map distortion: Europe’s geography, borders and distances curve naturally around the globe. (Manually-drawn states and procedural pre-generated subdivisions for the rest of the globe are planned.)

  • Nation Selection & Government Types – Choose any existing European state, each with its own government type, alliances, vassals or personal unions.

  • Mass-Scale Unit System – Many battalions fit inside a single tile, delivering a grander sense of warfare and allowing more strategic allocations; higher density options planned for both tiles and units.

  • Ground Combat & Casualties – Units clash, suffer casualties, and gain experience; individual models disappear to indicate losses—no graphic violence.

  • Realistic Manpower Pool – Eligible soldiers stem from 1914 starting data, age brackets, male ratios, injury level, and conscription laws.

  • Wars, Ceasefires & Alliances – Secure allies, occupy tiles, and declare wars; hostilities can end in ceasefire (peace conferences in-development). Cascading calls-to-arms can pull suzerains, vassals and allies into conflict; tiles can be occupied and liberated.

Gameplay depicts a globe representation of the Earth populated by nations disputing territory. Army units are shown as 2D icons that capture enemy tiles. No blood, gore, realistic violence, or personal harm is shown (only color-coded tiles changing ownership/occupation).
