About This Game

You play as a mercenary band in an open world. Your core tools are exploration, combat, and trade. The world gets more dangerous over time. To keep up, you need practice and perks. To get perks you need score. Score comes from completing goals and beating bosses.

EXAMPLE PLAYSTYLES:

  • Hire anybody you can, don't be picky about who you fight, fall back while vulnerable, and get your combat-related skills nice and high through use.

  • Put together a team that travels at high speed, and focus on courier contracts and trade while outrunning stronger enemies.

  • Focus on stealth, and roam in dense terrains to pick off weak enemies and avoid strong ones.

  • Get perks (luck of the draw permitting) to specialize in fighting in a particular terrain, or against a particular outlaw gang.

  • Explore like it's a bad habit, and focus on collecting memories. Some perks scale with memories, so prioritize picking those.

  • Embrace different types of goals, so no matter what you do, you earn score. Or specialize in just one type.

  • Get every anti-boss perk you can, and start clearing bosses much earlier than you normally would.

Each playthrough ends on defeat while vulnerable, or at the retirement deadline. Reaching retirement is a victory, but you can beat your personal best score even if you don't.

FEATURES:

  • Open world travel as a mercenary band.

  • Auto-battler combat: no direct control over fighters, focusing on team composition and modifiers instead.

  • Procedurally generated fighter types, so you couldn't run the same composition each game even if you wanted to.

  • A full system of terrain properties and weather events.

  • Use-it-to-improve-it skills.

  • Fighters get stronger with player skills (but not equally).

  • A trade system with different towns buying and selling different things, as well as offer quality that's random but affected by skills.

  • Generated contracts and random in-town activities.

  • Almost 200 perks.

  • Goals are always voluntary to accept, and will never prescribe a playstyle.

  • Most goals come with handicaps that affect you for as long as the goal is not completed.

  • Lenient permadeath: you're allowed to lose a battle, but not twice in quick succession.
