About This Game

Tuoni is a turn-based RPG that borrows aesthetics and elements from old-school roguelikes.
It is an atmospheric blend of exploration, simple but tactical combat, and extensive buildcrafting. Take your weapon, grab your armor, and wander towards the northern wilderness on your mission to reach Tuoni, the land of the dead.

JOURNEY TO FINNISH MYTHOLOGY

Explore a rich fantasy-world inspired by Finnish legends and the untamed northern wilderness. Tuoni offers a unique blend of old-school RPG-design and atmospheric worldbuilding, where ancient spirits, forgotten creatures, and silent but all-seeing forests accompany your journey through the unknown.

Mountains, forests, and marshes stretch endlessly, each region telling its own story through inhabitants and environment. Gnomes skitter in woods, trolls lurk in dark caves, and spirits drift between trees and water. Who knows, you might even cross paths with Näkki by a dark pond or glimpse the ancient wrath of Iki-Turso rising from the depths.

EXPLORE THE UNTAMED WILDS

• Open World: The North is vast, wild, and slow to reveal its secrets. Trek across howling fens, mossy cliffs, and ancient forests, on your journey to reach land of the dead, Tuoni. There are no set paths, only the ones you carve for yourself.

• Procedural Generation: Wilderness shifts with every journey. Twisting cave systems, forgotten trails, and roaming beasts are reborn with each venture. Key locations stay unchanged, and offer memorable characters and deep lore to uncover.

• Finnish Mythology: Step into a world shaped by ancient Finnish myth. From deathly marshes to spirit-haunted woods, every corner of the wild holds presence of forgotten gods, various spirits of the nature and large amount of creatures from small to gigantic. Is that a stone or a troll?

LEARN TO SURVIVE

• Turn-based Combat: Fights are tactical and unforgiving, and rely on a tick-based system. Magic can empower weapons just as easily as it tears through foes. Do you grab an axe, explore powers of fire or become a feared shaman?

• Freely Explore: Tuoni lets you choose your path. Explore where you will, shape your character as you see fit, and decide who lives or dies. But tread carefully, as the land does not forget.

BUILD YOUR LEGACY

• Character Development: There are no hard-set classes, only choices. Shape your hero from a wide array of archetypes like Frostborn, Stone Guardian or Battle Shaman (and many, many others), while forging a build that stands the test of time! 

• Upgrade Weapons: As you journey deeper into the wild, you'll uncover ways to reshape and enhance your gear, to make your journey longer and stronger.

• Enemy Variety: Wolves, bears, and other beasts roam the land, some still natural, others hollowed and warped by unknown forces. In the depths of troll-caves, increasingly deadlier and older trolls live, each layer revealing something more ancient and grim. What can you find down there?

AN ADVENTURE AND A CHALLENGE

Blending RPG's and Roguelikes, Tuoni offers two game-modes:

• Adventure Mode: Progress is saved on checkpoints, and each death starts from most recent one. Beware however, world is still dangerous and poses a great deal of challenge.

• Traditional Mode: Truly challenge yourself with a world that kills you for good. No more checkpoints and every death starts all the way from beginning.

No. All graphical assets (in-game and Store-page), music and sound-effects are created by human artists.

Can CRT-filter be removed?
Yes, and adjusted if you wish to.
