About This Game

Finally, a Greek Mythology quiz game that’s both fun and meaningful.
Epimythos: The Forgotten Legends offers three distinct modes to test your knowledge, learn the stories, and dive deep into mythic symbolism — with illustrations, contextual backstories, and hundreds of curated questions. Now, Epimythos has added a Chronological mode, which walks you through the myths in chronological order, through six mythological eras.

Why Greek Mythology?

The Hellenic peoples lived in the coastal areas of the eastern Mediterranean, and gave rise to the Roman empire. Their mythology lies at the root of Western civilization. Its gods, heroes, and monsters have shaped literature, language, and architecture for thousands of years. The echoes of their mythology, philosophy and worldviews reverberate through our civilization, even in the modern era. In fact the very word echo comes from ancient Greek myth.
Discovery Mode
Start here if you want to explore, learn, or refresh your memory. Each of the 390 questions (as of Version 1.0) is paired with a contextual introduction and a backstory after each answer — perfect for mythology buffs and newcomers alike.
Additionally, Discovery Mode offers occasional annotations, Anachronism Notes, and other factoid type bits of information to help clarify information that might be confusing at first. These annotations can be dismissed whenever you see them.

Choose up to 100 questions per round from the following categories:

 • Heroes and Legends: The greats like Heracles and Perseus, plus tragic heroes like Jason and Theseus.

 • The Trojan War and the Return home of the Greeks: Everything about these narratives.

 • Argonauts: The mysterious adventures of Jason and his epic crew, plus mighty Medea.

 • Olympians and Titans: All questions involving the Olympians and their predecessors.

 • Underworld and Afterlife: Myths involving Underworld deities and quests.

 • Heracles: The mighty son of Zeus and Alcmene, his life of struggle and redemption.

 • Mythical Bestiary: Pegasus, Chimera, Hydra, and others, from birds to giants.

 • Love, Drama, and Tragedy: Transcendent myths that touch the divine from a Dionysian angle.

 • History and Geography: Lore rooted more in real history than in myth.

 • Notable Mortals: Access stories about plain old human beings using this filter.

You can also play Discovery Mode in Chronological order, broken up as follows: the Primordial Era, the Titanomachy, the Gigantomachy, The Age of Gods, the Early Heroic Age, the Late Heroic Age, and the Post-Heroic Age. Anti-repetition filters are available in the bigger Discovery Mode categories, and in all Chrono-Discovery time periods. You decide whether you want to play a quiz with a curated feel, or tackle every question in the question library.

Mastering Discovery Mode will sharpen your skills for...
Speed Mode
The fast-paced core of Epimythosrace against the clock, earn points, and push your multiplier to the limit. The better you do, the harder the questions get.

 • Adaptive Difficulty – Choose Easy, Medium, or Hard; the game adjusts based on your streak

 • Multipliers – Chain correct answers to build score. Harder settings offer up to x10 multipliers

 • Skips – Racked up a nice multiplier and you've hit a question where you are unsure? Skip without penalty once or twice (but no mercy in Hard Mode)

 • Leaderboard Ready – Challenge friends or score big - anyone who has what it takes can reach the top
Verbose Mode
A deep-dive experience for players who want rich visuals and interpretive insight.
Answer typed-response questions from a pool of 140 illustrated myth scenes. Chronological ordering takes you through the myths in order, but random or category play is available. Verbose is quizzing in storybook mode, where you have to type in the name or concept of the answer. Odysseus called himself Noman? Type it. It asks you who Paris chose? Type her name. If you’re close, a sleek, glossy answer button appears — click it and continue to the illustration and in-depth explanation. Don't know? You can still proceed to the explanation.

Verbose also has special category: Interpretations. Uncover hidden meanings and symbolic codes. What does Medusa's head on Athena's shield symbolize? What was Oedipus really about?
This is mythology that dares to dig deeper, but only the worthy can unlock those questions. Do you have what it takes?
