What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We want to release in Early Acess for Bruisers 2d, as the core gameplay has remained the focus for about 7 years, with it finally feeling polished and great to play. I believe the game is ready for the public to experience, with the opportunity to shape the career mode further.

Early Access allows us to refine fight mechanics, AI behaviour, and career progression based on how people actually play, rather than relying solely on internal testing. We also plan to expand content during this period, including additional fighters, events, and features.

Our goal is to work closely with players to shape Bruisers into a deep, rewarding boxing experience that holds up over long careers, not just short play sessions.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“2 years will be the goal to polish it to it's final state, to finally call it finished. ”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“We plan to expand on the career mode, with further story beats in the pro mode. We plan to hone in on the amateur stage of the career mode further, by adding competitions/olympic style presentation/tournament etc. Also further expand the bareknuckle career with challenges and story beats. Also further polishing the customisation options, to allow more options with a better presentation.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The in ring gameplay is polished to an almost finished standard, with some further enhancements to be expected. Like customisation/balancing/feature additions if neccessary. The career mode is about 70% finished, with it being fully playable, but needing some further details to feel immersive to the intended level.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We plan to gradually raise the price as we ship new content and features. Entirely dependent on how much content is added along the way.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We have an open discussion policy, where the dev is constantly answering questions and looking for suggestions from the community there. Also being active in youtube comments and the steam page community discussion board.”

About This Game

Bruisers 2D Boxing

Bruisers is unlike any boxing game before it. Climb from amateur bouts to the top of the pros. Train, eat, fight, dope, and deal with anyone who wants a piece of you on the way up — but tread lightly. Some consequences here are fatal.

Don't let the pixel art fool you. The boxing is real — slip, counter, move your head, control distance, break your opponent down. Choose from three distinct fighter types — each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and style. Learn to use them or get exposed.

Build your fighter from scratch and take them as far as you can. Plan your meals, make weight, watch your vitals, hold down a job between fights. Stock your corner and work your way through the amateur, professional, and bareknuckle circuits.

Your boxer ages in real time. The years wear on you. So do the injuries — damage accumulates. A career full of hard fights will show. Every decision compounds. A bad camp, a missed weight cut, the wrong fight at the wrong time — it all matters and it all adds up. Rivalries develop along the way. Some of them get personal.

Outside the ring, the world has its own rules. Your career might not go where you expect — every playthrough tells a different story. Shady dealings, illegal gambling, a mob presence that lurks just below the surface. Need an edge? There are "options" if you know where to look.

Blood. Stoppages. Knockouts. Some referees stop the fight. Others don't. Backyard shows, dingy gyms, smoky clubs, and packed arenas. Every fight has a life of its own.

Need to settle a beef with a friend? Pull up a seat on the couch and jump into quick play with 100+ fighters inspired by real boxing history. Winner takes all.

Features:

  • Realism based 2D Boxing – Jabs, straights, hooks, uppercuts and overhands. Choose your punch selection. Master timing, counters, slipping punches, head movement and parrying to edge the upper hand. Stances change to in-fighting if you get up close and personal with your opponent. Slick style, Bully style and Balanced style - 3 different boxing styles allow for different methods of boxing. Tie up your opponent and deliver punches in the clinch to wear them down, before the referee steps in.

  • Career Mode with RPG Progression – Start from nothing and take on the amateurs to raise your skills against whoever is placed against you,  become professional and climb the ranks by training, winning fights, and making tough choices. Want a new challenge? Take on the underground bareknuckle leagues. The choice is yours.

  • Train, Eat, Survive – Balance workouts, job shifts, and nutrition to stay healthy, level up and make money to fund your needs between fights.

  • Injury and Health Management – Push too hard and you’ll pay the price. Stay sharp and recover smart.

  • Retro Visuals, Modern Depth – A throwback art style combined with modern gameplay systems and detail.

Whether you're a hardcore fight fan or just love a gritty, underdog story with old-school flavor, Bruisers 2D Boxing brings to you the chance to create your own boxing journey.

Alongside the gameplay, Bruisers benefits from a 16 bit inspired soundtrack, with hours of music lovingly handcrafted by Nick Bassett.
