About This Game

Summary

First Age is a card-based strategy game set in the Neolithic era, where you lead humanity’s first civilization. Through a turn-based system, you’ll invent, craft, and create powerful cards to overcome the challenges of each age and build your way to victory.

No two games will play the same. Each match offers multiple distinct paths to triumph—whether through science, religion, culture, or other unique win conditions. Science provides a familiar structure for strategy fans, focusing on research and carefully built decks. Religion, Gold and Culture, however, offer entirely different playstyles that change how you approach each game.

One standout strategy is Divinity in Sacrifice—a religious path where you must grow your town as much as possible, only to sacrifice your people at temples each turn. In doing so, you earn favor with the gods and push toward a faith-based victory.

Features

  • 150+ unique cards to collect

  • 75+ technologies to invent

  • 100+ cultures to explore

  • 50+ religions to worship

  • 50+ unique Ages to play through

  • 1+ dogs to pet

  • 1+ cats to Pstststst

Dynamic City Building

City building in First Age is less about laying out roads and more about crafting potent, synergistic combos tied to your chosen win condition. Every building and unit contributes to a web of effects—stacking, triggering, and amplifying one another across hundreds of unique cards, each with dozens of culture-based upgrades.

You'll place cards with adjacency or district bonuses to form novel synergies that grow stronger each turn. Whether you build wide, tall, or pour everything into a single, ultra-optimized card (min-maxers, we see you), the choice is yours.

Use the intuitive card stacking mechanic to build new structures by placing cards on top of one another. Pivot strategies on the fly or double down on your city's strengths—as long as your people don't revolt after you use the last of your food to build a shiny new Claypit. Leadership has its costs.

Resource Management

From barley and berries to slate and stone, First Age offers a rich variety of resources essential for progressing each turn. Resources are used to build new cards, boost existing ones, or unlock advanced cards through the technology tree.

Explore dozens of handcrafted maps, each with unique cards, ancient relics, and distinct playstyles. Some maps give you a fruitful start but may lack materials for stone buildings needed to survive harsh winters. Others might drop you into a desert, where a rich oasis becomes your lifeline for generations.

Every decision matters—villagers have limited actions per turn. Do you risk sending them to forage in the forest for extra food or keep them tending the farms? Your choices shape the path to victory.

Religion, Faith, Science, Culture

First Age offers multiple paths to victory, with four primary focuses tied to distinct Tech Trees—each representing a unique strategy you can pursue or ignore:

  • Science unlocks new buildings and advanced cards, but requires sacrificing some of your gathered resources to research and craft.

  • Gold lets you purchase cards you need or desire, but demands investing resources to acquire this valuable trader’s currency.

  • Culture empowers you to create works of art that upgrade your cards, fundamentally altering how they behave and interact.

  • Religion grants divine bonuses, but only when you satisfy the gods you worship. This path dramatically changes gameplay, from hosting harvest festivals to performing human sacrifices.

Each victory condition offers a distinct playstyle—choose your path, or combine them to create unique strategies.

The Ages

With great bonuses come greater challenges. After your turns run out, you must advance to a new Age—each bringing tougher trials inspired by the harsh realities our ancestors faced. The scenario becomes increasingly difficult as you progress, testing your civilization’s resilience.

Each Age presents unique challenges and rewards. Some may be as simple as celebrating the winter solstice, while others force you to survive devastating plagues, ice ages, or droughts. The ancient world was unforgiving, and First Age strives to capture that struggle.

With over 30 Ages to experience—and dozens more to unlock—there’s always a fresh challenge awaiting even the most seasoned strategy veterans.
