About This Demo

Qiyb2 Demo is an abstract 2D score-attack auto-platformer with many different random-generated cubes, hand-crafted backgrounds and experimental soundtracks. In this demo the player controls an automatically jumping cube, with other cubes working as platforms, where by jumping on them activates their effect. In the demo, the emphasis is on attaining as high a score as possible and the key to achieve this lies on three cornerstones:

  • Landing the jumps precisely

  • Having a grasp of the different cubes' effects and synergies

  • Mastery of the already unlocked skills the player is provided with: height reset, levitation, teleportation, time dilation and effect bank

The different cubes that can spawn form as a collection a so-called probability hierarchy, where usually the cube's rarity defines how great its effect on the game can be, with over 40 different cubes that can spawn in the demo. The player can earn currency by playing the game, and this currency can be used to unlock over ten unlockables in total, such as skins and soundtracks, with many more unlockables (such as skill paths for the skills) to unlock in the full game. The dynamic difficulty meter in the lower right corner goes from 'Zero' all the way up to 'Adept' (highest difficulty is 'Champion' in the version 1.1 of the full game), where the demo's hardest bosses can spawn. There are six different bosses in the demo, and the challenge domains from version 1.1 of the full game are included as random events, with other possible random events being, for example, an enemy spawning or a rain of cubes occurring. The demo contains no tutorial, with an emphasis on experimentation.
