What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Drowning Ashes is entering Early Access to allow us to develop and refine the game based on feedback from the community. The overall plot and lore, as well as the core gameplay experience, are mostly set, but there is plenty of room to fine-tune the project based on player feedback.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“Drowning Ashes is expected to be in Early Access for a period of 3 - 6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The full version is planned to contain additional areas, items, recruitable monsters, lore, and secrets, multiple endings, and a more refined interface and audiovisual presentation.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The current Early Access version of Drowning Ashes is intended as a first pass of most of the game, with a substantial amount of replayability. This version includes:

*Five playable characters
*The first 6 explorable zones
*Several smaller side areas
*Over 30 monsters to recruit
*Powerful bosses to defeat
*Boss equipment crafting

Not yet implemented:

*The final 3 explorable zones
*Recruitable monsters for the final 3 zones
*The final boss(es)
*Any of the endings”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The full release will (probably) be priced higher than the Early Access version.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We hope to involve the community in testing the balance and fun factor of the playable classes, recruitable monsters, and items to ensure that the release version has the best possible gameplay experience and build diversity.

Drowning Ashes is also full of secrets, and we would love to see how far the community gets in uncovering them all, and which ones are worth developing further.”

About This Game

Gather Your Party

Enter a world where (almost) any enemy you face can become an ally! Choose from five playable heroes, and over 40 recruitable monsters; each with their own strengths, weaknesses, and equipment options.

The ruins of the Capital are an unforgiving place, and you will need to choose your allies and equipment wisely to have any chance of survival.

Strategic Combat

Enemies in Drowning Ashes are dangerous, and each encounter can pose a deadly threat to the unprepared.

Learn each enemy's weaknesses, and build your perfect strategy to conquer impossible odds against deadly bosses.

Souls-Inspired

Explore a cursed and dying world, rest at Wellsprings to restore your healing flasks, and temper the Ashes of your foes into mighty weapons.

Drowning Ashes is a turn-based monster collector at is core, but fans of the souls-like genre will find plenty of familiar tropes amidst the ruins of the Capital.

Some of the dialogue and lore entries allude to dark themes such as torture, death and suffering, though not in any great detail.
