About This Game

“Commander! The whole alliance has invested in you to lead this war against the forces of evil! Do not be nervous. This war is going to be fun.”

Coin War is a new twist on the Slay the Spire-like Roguelike deckbuilder that blends in grid-based unit tactics: the cards you play become units on the battlefield and remain active until their Stamina runs out! Coin War features unique mechanics, distinctive battles full of back-and-forth decisions, endless build possibilities, and deep strategy. If you want a fresh challenge in the StS-like genre, Coin War will not disappoint you!

“The alliance is funding this expedition because it recognizes your talent for arranging troops on the field!”

Coin War follows the traditional deckbuilding and card-draw rules of Slay the Spire-like Roguelike card games, but adds all-new unit tactics. Playing unit cards deploys units onto a 5x5 battlefield grid; when you end your turn, those units deal damage to enemies, provide Defense, or create other powerful effects. Units lose 1 Stamina each turn, and when they lose all Stamina, they return to the discard pile.

Besides unit cards, you can also use tactic cards to directly affect the battle, or deploy landmark cards to permanently influence the fight. Coin War brings tactical grid play into a Roguelike deckbuilder, and if you think carefully about where to place your forces, you can maximize their effects!

There is no need to worry about too many units on the board making the math hard. Coin War already calculates your expected Defense and the damage enemies are about to take for you.

“Your legion, the Human Empire that originated from the frozen northern lands, excels at crushing its enemies with the power of frost magic and a spirit of unity and resilience.”

Unit-based gameplay brings brand-new mechanics: the Human Empire deck excels at applying area Buffs, restoring unit Stamina, and using the special Freeze mechanic to make units stop losing Stamina at the cost of being unable to act.

You can Freeze most of your units on the board to create infinite loops; you can gain huge returns by applying area Buffs to many units; or, much like in Monster Train, you can keep your strongest units on the battlefield forever through Stamina restoration.

The Human Empire can support many different archetypes, and those archetypes also interact with one another. This deck will make your build process full of strategy and rewarding feedback.

“But if those evil creatures deplete your Supply, everyone is going to pull their investment and walk away.”

Unit-based gameplay also gives enemies brand-new mechanics!

Instead of directly applying debuffs to the player, enemies summon units onto the battlefield that inflict debuffs on you. You can change when those debuffs take effect by making those units lose Stamina or by Freezing them.

At the same time, enemy actions can also affect your units on the board, such as reducing the Stamina of the unit with the highest ATK.

These mechanics create more ways for enemies to interact with your deck, making each battle feel distinct!

“This expedition is long and difficult. You will need the right team to go further.”

Coin War also draws inspiration from Slay the Spire 2 and Monster Train-style card-modifying events, letting you make a powerful card that would normally be Exhausted playable multiple times and turn it into the core of your build!

Coin War also includes quest events, where you can accept quests during events. These quests may bring extra trouble, but they also reward you more generously once completed!

In addition, Coin War takes inspiration from SoulLike-style side stories and features long quest lines. You can help a warrior in Act 1, and he will repay you by helping you in an elite battle; if you continue completing his requests in the same run, you will meet him again in the final act!

We want events to be more than numeric choices like ‘recover HP or take a relic.’ They should have a lasting impact on your build and route choices, and tell side stories with memorable characters.

Game Feature:

1. The distinctive unit-based gameplay preserves the strategy of traditional StS-like deckbuilders while adding new mechanics and challenges!

2. The demo already includes a full Human Empire deck with 80 cards, featuring new mechanics tailored to unit-based tactics, plus 30+ Neutral cards. The full game will include 3 full decks and even more Neutral cards.

3. The demo includes two playable acts: six bosses, six elites, and 20+ other enemies. The full game will include three playable acts!

4. Encounter a wide range of events, accept quests, complete character side stories, and discover unexpected ways to strengthen your deck.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

I used AI-generated visual assets for the card art and parts of the UI, but I want to clarify that all scene backgrounds were commissioned from professional human artists.

I fully understand the concerns surrounding AI. It is heartbreaking to see AI generate in seconds what our partners—real people we know—have spent years of hard work and practice to master. However, as the sole core member of this development team, this project simply would not exist without the help of AI.

Ironically, it is because of this project that I was able to pay over 10,000 RMB in commissions to human artists—an amount that pushes the absolute limit of my budget. While a monthly subscription of a few dozen dollars won't impact an AI giant company, 10,000 RMB is enough to support an artist’s livelihood for an entire quarter in my country.

I hope for your understanding and tolerance regarding this choice. Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.
