What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Abyssal Trench is a solo-developed passion project, and Early Access allows me to gather valuable feedback from the community to shape the final game. Horror is deeply personal—what scares one player may not affect another. By involving players early, I can fine-tune the pacing, improve scares, and refine gameplay mechanics based on real experiences.

Early Access also allows me to test performance and stability across a wide range of systems, which is especially important for an open underwater world.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“I plan to stay in Early Access for 6 to 12 months, depending on player feedback, feature polish, and bug reports. My focus is on building something atmospheric, terrifying, and stable—without rushing the final version.

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Polished gameplay and optimized performance

Expanded exploration zones and events

Additional dream sequences and hallucinations

Final voiceovers, audio logs, and environmental storytelling

New threats and encounters deeper in the trench

Multiple endings depending on player choices and exploration”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Core gameplay loop (exploration, survival, mech movement)

A fully playable map with three major drilling sites

Intro narrative, audio logs, and mech systems

Dynamic horror elements and sound design

One complete ending”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“Yes. The game will be available at a lower price during Early Access, and will increase slightly when the full version launches to reflect the added content and polish.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“Player feedback is everything. I’ll be actively listening to the Steam forums and community discussions to improve mechanics, identify bugs, and balance difficulty. Horror works best when shaped by those experiencing it—and I want players to be part of that process.”

About This Game

Abyssal Trench is a single-player, first-person psychological horror game set deep underwater. You play as a lone explorer who awakens from cryo-sleep after a failed mission. Your escape pod is out of fuel, your team is missing, and a mysterious AI voice directs you to investigate three abandoned drilling sites scattered across the seafloor.

In this narrative-driven horror experience, you must pilot a submersible mech to explore underwater environments, avoid monstrous deep-sea creatures, and survive surreal hallucinations caused by isolation and oxygen deprivation. There are no weapons. Your tools are movement, observation, and problem-solving.

Throughout the game, you’ll collect mission data, uncover story fragments, restore power, and slowly piece together what happened during the lost three years of your cryo-sleep. Each drilling site offers a different challenge, including navigation puzzles, stealth sections, and scripted psychological events.

There is a clear beginning, middle, and end. Most players can expect a focused 1.5 to 2-hour experience on a single playthrough. Replay ability comes from revisiting story clues and events for deeper lore.
