Why Early Access?

“The game is fully playable, but there are features I would like to add that I consider fundamental to my vision of what Caverns and Dryads should be.
For that, I highly value the players' experience and how they can feel that the game conveys the same essence I want to express in it, ensuring that future development moves in the right direction.”

“Roughly 6 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“Here is a list of some of the planned upcoming features. Most of them are already pre-implemented in their basic structure.
  • House building: the couple may build a house in some places, customizable.
  • Interactive stories: in the bar, hotels, in the middle of dungeons... generated by the game, but with coherence.
  • Relationship stories between the wizard and the dryad, milestones in their relationship, and quests to achieve them.
  • Effects of the relationship between the wizard and the dryad on combat and story.
  • Boss monsters! They are ready, just need to add implementation.
  • Keys to locked places.
  • Forge your own weapons.
  • Create your own spells.
  • Inventory of equipment and items.
  • Quests and searches generated by the game, but with coherence.
  • Special enemies, like the Archmage.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“These are the features that the game currently has:
- 40 places: 7 cities, 3 sanctuaries, 30 dungeons. You can freely explore and move through the different locations in the game world. Each visit brings new and different situations.
- Main combat features are implemented, with spell casting, armor and weapons.
- Music that changes depending on the situation.
- Cities with bar, blacksmith, hotel, in their basic implementation.
- Resurrection at the cost of losing stat points, money, weapons and armor, or other costs.
- Translated completely to 3 languages: English, French, Spanish.
- Encounters with gods and dryads that grant you stat points on sanctuaries.
- Basic bad and good events that happen to you while exploring.
- Intro story that grants you stat points and gold if you finish it.
- Tutorial with images (optional).
- Game is saved when you finish the steps of a place.
- World map that shows all the possible places to go.
- Resting to recover mana.
- Exchange of life for mana and vice versa.
- Examine mode to check what is most probable to happen in the next step.
- Character stats.
- Magic system.
- Powers and special attacks of monsters.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The game will always be free. There may be paid expansions in the future, but not the base game. My idea is to keep everything free, but open to things like donations or patronage (which would be outside this site and completely voluntary). But the game itself will always be free.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“I will collect feedback through Steam as well as through the forum and the Discord group created for this purpose. I can also receive feedback via email, although giving it through Discord or the forums is encouraged.”

"Caverns & Dryads" takes you to a world of fantasy, where you will guide Tamzyn, the dryad warrioress deadly and beautiful— and Sioul, the wizard tenacious and powerful.

Together, they will explore forgotten cities of mysterious beauty and dungeons filled with dangerous monsters. 

Prepare for an adventure full of action, magic, and romance!  

Some features:

  • You can freely explore and move through the different locations in the game world. Each visit brings new and different situations.

  • Every playthrough is unique, but everything is designed to make sense.

  • Your actions will shape the story and the relationship between the warrioress and the wizard.

  • They are heroes: they don't fall easily. The wizard can resurrect the warrioress, but at a cost that you can recover if you play wisely.

  • Turn-based 2D action that's immersive and relaxing, yet thrilling during battles.

  • Play in short sessions or for hours, immersing yourself in this fantasy universe.

AI Generated Content Disclosure

The developers describe how their game uses AI Generated Content like this:

I trained my own styles for AI, and created my own concepts for places, heroine, hero, monsters, and icons of my game. All my styles are based on my own work and on public domain classical painting art, so I consider it to be ethical.

The workflow I use is this: I paint an image (in Rebelle 7 Pro, natural painting software), then run through my own styles and concepts, so it becomes more polished. Then the result is usually very imperfect, then I paint again on it, modify, re-render, repeat this process several times, usually ending in me painting on it as a final step.

Then I postwork the image with an image editor usually Zoner Photo Studio or Affinity Photo. What you see is the result of all this process, not a raw generative art image, and that is why you feel some vibe, but you can see it's not at all the style you use to see on generative images, because there is a huge part of human involvement both in manual and generative steps.

This is how I feel I should do art, and I think it's honest, as it doesn't break the rights of anyone, and implies a big effort and care from my part as an artist.
