What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“Huge Workshop is two of the original Brawlhalla lead developers - a game we continuously developed and improved for nine years straight through daily passionate feedback from players. We know the value of player input.

Here are a few of the specific areas where we expect to benefit from early access players as we develop Dragons of 1066. We need player input on building a game board map with long term strategic gameplay value. We need player input developing our unique unit selection and movement system. We need player input developing the never-before-seen True Roll dice rolling system that Dragons of 1066 uses. We need player input on controls and input as we develop a brand new concept - a true grand strategy board game that can be seamlessly played on both PC and mobile through a linked account. We need player input on which social and communication features we need to implement in-game, and which are best left to the players. We need real player feedback on whether we should focus next on creating new systems for existing friends to create games among themselves, or focus on matchmaking and public game lists. We need player feedback on proper game balance and the initial board state. We need player feedback on whether the game will benefit from an extra layer of complexity with a card drafting system for special per-Kingdom powers. We need player feedback on the importance of in-game tournaments and other possible features. ”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“We expect Dragons to be in early access for around 4 months.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The final version of Dragons of 1066 will incorporate player feedback to create a unique grand-strategy board game experience. It will be competitively sound, balanced, and polished. It may add substantial new features like bots, tournaments, new maps, new starting configurations, new levels of strategic play with Kingdom-specific powers, and others, depending on feedback and feasibility.

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“Dragons is current fully playable both synchronous and asynchronous modes. ”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“We do not expect the price to change when we leave early access”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We expect we will focus on the Steam forums to gather player feedback and ideas and probably grow from there to a Discord server as we expand. ”

About This Game

Now you can play the classic turn-based strategy board game Dragons of 1066 online.

In Dragons of 1066 each player controls one of four warring kingdoms of Mythic Europe.

The game begins with pieces representing armies of legions, knights, warbeasts, kraken, galleons, eagles and dragons -- all arrayed on the board as they were in the year 1066 of the Age of Dragons.

Each turn, you move your pieces to create battles, then resolve those battles by rolling dice. Then end your turn by repositioning your remaining pieces and recruiting new ones.

To win, you and your ally must work together to capture all four great Fortresses on the board. (In a two player game, one player plays both sides of the alliance.)

The rules of Dragons of 1066 are straightforward, but take some effort to learn. Once you have mastered the rules, you will be able to enjoy the game for years to come.

This digital version of the game is beautifully illustrated by Dave Montes, and features an absolute fire score from award-winning composer Chris Rickwood. It includes an easy way to connect with friends to play online.

Mobile Cross-play and Account-linking

Dragons of 1066 has a full mobile version for IOS and Android. Steam players get these full mobile versions for free on both platforms.  Link your Steam version to the mobile app to play your Dragons of 1066 anywhere. In addition, Dragons of 1066 is cross-play enabled, and you can play with friends who have only the mobile version.

True Roll

Rolling dice is important in Dragons of 1066, and this digital version employs the True Roll dice system. True Roll lets you, not the computer, roll the dice, generating fair results through your own throwing action, just as you would when playing the box game. Learn more about the True Roll system at the Huge Workshop website.

We hope you enjoy the game.
