About This Game

Find your truth. Tame your spirits. Discover your place.

Yokumo: Night Parade is a turn-based monster-catching RPG set in the beautiful region of Aomori, Japan. Play as an aspiring Shaman and protect the land from a dangerous rogue group set out on terrorizing everything in their path. Why they've suddenly appeared with such fearsome force is unknown, although rumours have been throwing around "Hyakki Yagyō". What the event of the Hyakki Yagyō is within the world of Yokumo can only be found by exploring the land yourself!

Your story starts off as your childhood friend's father, a respected veteran Shaman, disappears after a run-in with the dangerous group. Setting off to find and save him gets the two of you tangled within the webs of this story—or perhaps, were you already caught in them to begin with?

Explore the Spirited Land of Aomori

With your childhood friend, travel through over 10 towns and cities, each inspired by real-world locations, architecture, and culture. Visit shrines, trek through forests, wander through foggy mountain paths, and uncover landmarks shrouded in myth. Every aspect of this region has its own tale to tell.

Being just a Shaman-in-training, you'll complete challenges and tests along the way, proving yourself strong enough to help in the battle. And to deepen the bond with the Yokumo and the region, you may complete personal quests along the way to explore the history of the land and discover more Yokumo.

During your journey, you'll tame and battle with more than 100 Yokumo, ranging from the commonly known Kappa, Yuki Onna, Oni, Kitsune, and Karakasa Kozo, to the lesser known Daikoji no Kai, Hangonko, Furi, Waniguchi, and the Torakishi.

Every Yokumo you meet tells a story based on real myth.

A New Take on Monster Battling

Where this game differs from most other RPGs are two main things:

Team synergy is everything. Battles are never one-on-one, but rather, you'll form parties of 6 with 3 Yokumo on the front lines in strategic, turn-based encounters inspired by games like Octopath Traveler, Earthbound, and Shin Megami Tensei. With the power of Hiden Connections, you'll want to build your team stratigically as certain Yokumo's Hiden will form a connection with another's and evolve to a new level!

There are NO typings & the battles are based on team synergy.

To replace typings and attack effectiveness are the Yokumo's Hiden. Hiden are unique skills tied to each Yokumo which can be both active or passive skills, both of which may interact with other Yokumo's Hiden on your team. And there will be no one-on-one combat, but rather you'll always control a team of six with three on the offence.

The infamous Umi Nyoubou's Hiden is Depth of the Forgotten which has its damage increase by 20% for any fallen ally or enemy during the battle. The Umi Bouzu, often said to be the husbands of the Umi Nyoubou, has a Hiden, The Bottomless Barrel, that with a 50% chance will either deal massive damage to all enemies, or simply do nothing.

However, when together on the same team, their abilities change and it activates the Hiden Connection. Umi Nyoubou's Hiden is now Depth of the Barrel, and keeps the previous effect, however, each time she attacks, there's a 25% chance to unleash a surge of energy that damages all enemies for a small amount. Umi Bouzu's Hiden, now The Bottomless Forgotten, still keeps the 50% effect as before, however, if failed, instead of doing nothing, all enemies' defence fall 20% for 2 turns—and Umi Nyoubou's next attack automatically triggers the surge.

Some Hiden Connections will completely alter the effects of the Hiden, or simply modify them to match their partner's. In this case, with the Umi Bouzu and Umi Nyoubou's sometimes deep connection, theirs are tied together. These two are a particularly strong pair, although to make up for it, they're both pretty difficult to acquire.

The Combat's Depth Doesn't End There!

In addition to familiar RPG stats like HP, Attack, Defense, and Speed, Yokumo has further layers:

  • Intelligence Determines the strength and speed of Astral abilities.

  • MP Measures both resistance to Astral attacks and your ability to cast them.

  • Physical vs. Astral Yokumo generally fall into one of these two core styles, adding another dimension to combat strategy.

Between the connections within Physical and Astral attacks, the team synergy, and Hiden, every battle is about smart planning, clever combos, and adapting to a dynamic field.

More Than Just a Game. An Honour to Culture

Yokumo: Night Parade is deeply inspired by Japanese folklore, culture, and history. Trying to bring that aspect of our world to you. A hidden educational experience.

Yokumo explores real Japanese mythology, living historical events, and regional legends, bringing them to the fantastical world of Yokumo. Every Yokumo is designed as a creative retelling of a real-world Yokai or spiritual belief, even when liberties are taken for gameplay. This isn’t an encyclopedia—but a love letter to Japan’s rich storytelling traditions.
