“We feel that the game is at a relatively complete stage, albeit missing some non-critical improvements. Through Early Access, we hope that players will be able to experience the unique gameplay that we introduced and have a fun time, while we plan for further development on the game and gather feedback.”

“Depending on the capacity of the team, Umbra will be in Early Access around 6 months to 2 years.”

“We plan to add additional levels, a more polished storyline, and more storytelling aspects. On top of that, we hope to adjust or create gameplay mechanics and/or modes for improving the replayability of the game.”

What is Umbra

Traverse through your home in your dreamscape, familiar but now swarmed with monsters, and defeat your inner demons one room at a time. Umbra is a game about the fears we have, the manifestation of fear as shadows, and defeating them with courage.

You play as a child who is stuck in his room, surrounded by strange shadowy figures. What was once your friendly companion, now haunts you in this foreign world. You hear chatters in the background, but you are too preoccupied to decipher the words. All you can do is make use of whatever you have to protect yourself from being consumed by the darkness...

Things seem to get worse as time goes on; the enemies are stronger, the environment against you, and desperation grows. You discover your inner strength, and using your portal to the Umbra world: your own shadows, you gradually learn the ways of survival. As everything is about to take a turn for the worse, will you break out, or will you be left in here forever? The truth is for you to discover.

Gameplay Features

  • Attack enemies using your shadows

  • Dash to reposition yourself

  • Recall the light to you to help you position your shadows

  • Unique bosses, enemies, weapons, and mechanics in each level

  • Linear progression through 3 levels, uncovering the story as you go

  • Environmental challenges including obstacles, slippery floor, freezing effects

In each level, you will face off against shadow enemies spawning at intervals, as well as a boss that causes mayhem in the environment or directly attacks you. Once you defeat the enemies and the boss, a door will open for you to transition to the next level. Your progress is saved upon transition to a new level.
