「I am an independent developer and want to give the community an opportunity to help drive the direction of the game. Ealy access will give the community an opportunity to give feedback, which I plan on incorporating into the game the best I can. Early access will provide me with the necessary feedback from the community to produce a game that is fun and engaging, vetted by the community.」

「The full version is planned to include additional polish, features, game balancing, and bug fixes, based on community feedback. It's difficult to anticipate what the community will uncover and suggest, but specific goals and inticipations include, but not limited to: potential "quality of life" enhancements in the player experience that improve visual feedback and intuitive play, community suggested card/ability updates that improve game balance and replayablity, quest and storyline improvements as needed, and dynamic content improvement as needed.」

「The early acces as well as the full release will always be free to play. The only potential in-app purchases will be a possible subscription for the dynamic content generation (not required to play the game). I might also offer the ability to pay for packs and decks, rather that only getting these though gameplay rewards, if this is something the community wants.」

「Community feedback will be of utmost importance to me and the continued development of this game. This feedback will help shape the game into something that players find enjoyable and egaging to play. After all, games should be designed around the community and players they are intended for. The community will be able to provide feedback in the Discussion forums as well as the Discord community. I plan on being actively engaged though these two mediums, and give serious consideration to all feedback.」

Key Features:

  • Dynamic Content: Quests, campaign events, and dialogue are generated dynamically by generative AI, based on your interactions, gameplay, and more.

  • Realistic NPC Chat: Open chat with in-game AI opponents and campaign NPCs.

  • Unique gameplay mechanics not found in any other TCG: Dreamscape cards change the in-game mechanics. Nightmare cards show up randomly in both players' decks at the beginning of the game, introducing an element of Suprise and "chaos" caused by the Nightmares. (Nightmares represent a second adversary that players must contend with, in addition to the in-game opponent. Nightmares are a core component of the Dreamscape Legends universe and the campaign story arc.)

  • Rewards: Earn badges, cards, packs, and coins (in-game economy) by playing matches and completing quests and campaign levels.

  • Card Trading System: Use the in-game economy to purchase cards and packs, or trade your cards in for coins, which can be used to "purchase" new cards and packs.

  • Online PvP and Solo Campaign Modes: Play online matches (based on the player matching system), solo matches against the computer AI, or dive into a rich, story-driven campaign with dynamically generated content. 

  • Traditional TCG Deck Building: Customize your decks and build new decks using the deck building system, just as you would expect from a TCG!

Enter The Dreamscape...

In the beginning, there was the Dreamscape—a realm of boundless imagination, where every dream spun by slumbering minds throughout the cosmos found its vivid reflection. It was a place of wondrous beauty and dark enigmas, where the brightest hopes danced with the deepest fears in an eternal ballet.

The Dreamweavers

The Dreamscape is ruled by the Dreamweavers, beings of immense power who could shape the ethereal substance of this land to craft realities as one would weave tapestries. Each Dreamweaver held dominion over their aspect of dreams... four factions, embodying the myriad facets of this boundless realm.

Dreamweaver Mechanic: Dreamscape cards are unique and powerful cards that temporarily change the mechanics of the arena/game board (the Dreamscape) during that match.

The Lucid Dreams

The Lucid Dreams were architects of enlightenment, conjuring cities of crystal and spires of light, where knowledge flowed like water, and wisdom bloomed like an endless spring. Their lands were a canvas for the curious and the wise, a utopia where thought and reality were one.

The Night Terrors

Opposing them were the Night Terrors, sovereigns of the shadowy recesses of fear. They carved their kingdoms in the chasms and canyons where light dared not linger. Here, the landscape itself responded to the primal fears etched into the very soul of all beings, creating a domain of power for those who thrived in the dark.

The Fantasy Dreams

Amidst these two stood the Fantasy Dreams, guardians of the mystical and the mythical. Theirs was a world of verdant forests and shimmering lakes, where mythical beasts roamed wild and free. The air was thick with magic, and every leaf and stone resonated with ancient spells.

The Prophetic Dreams

The Prophetic Dreams were the seers and the sages, holders of the keys to destiny. They lived in a serene expanse where time ebbed and flowed like the tide, revealing the past and future in the ripples. Their visions shaped the Dreamscape, as they saw beyond the veil of the present into the myriad paths of what was yet to come.

A New Evil Arises...

In harmony, these factions maintained the balance of the Dreamscape, until the arrival of the Nightmares—corruptions of fears that grew too powerful, too vivid. They were not bound to any realm but roamed the Dreamscape, turning dream into dread, and hope into despair.

A prophecy whispered among the Dreamweavers spoke of a time when the boundaries between the Dreamscape and the waking world would thin to a gossamer veil, and the Nightmares would seek to break through, to turn all of reality into an eternal nightmare.

Now, the Dreamweavers must rally, harnessing the essence of their domains, to weave a new fate—one that stands against the encroaching darkness of the Nightmares. They must delve into the deepest corners of imagination, conjure the most potent of dreams, and wield the power of legends yet to be written.

Thus begins the saga of Dreamscape Legends, where every card played is a dream conjured, and every match is a battle for the soul of both the Dreamscape and the waking world. Will the Dreamweavers maintain the delicate balance, or will the Nightmares consume all in their path? The tapestry of fate is in your hands, dreamer. Weave well, Dreamweaver.

Nightmare Mechanic: Nightmare cards introduce chaos into the match. They have powerful effects that can have detrimental effects on your opponent... or you. However, players can't play nightmare cards. These cards are randomly placed into each player's deck at the beginning of a match. When a player draws a nightmare card, it is played immediately and automatically.

A Note from the Developer:

I am a full-time AI developer (in the cybersecurity industry) and part-time independent game developer. This project is a labor of love and a combination of two passions: game development and AI programming. 

FULL DISCLOSURE: As the sole developer and no budget for the project (along with my love of AI), much of the artwork and narrative was developed with the assistance of generative AI. This was intentional, because I also wanted to experiment with the aspect of using AI to help me create the game. Therefore, this game will always be free to play. I intend to implement local generative AI for dynamic narrative and quest generation, but I may also offer an optional subscription for cloud-based AI. I may also offer paid card and pack purchasing, if the community wants such a thing. However, purchases will NEVER be required, and this will never be a "pay to win" game.

  • Throughout the early access portion of this release (and beyond), feel free to report bugs and request features. I promise to be responsive and communicate with the community regularly. (I'll have a Discord server up soon as well.)

  • All AI generated card art is tagged with "DALL-E" (the tool I used). If there are any artists out there that would like to contribute art, I will gladly replace AI generated art with suitable contributions from the community and list your name (if you want) in the game credits.

Some card artwork, scene backgrounds, and video were generated using generative AI (DALL-E).

Players can interact with the game AI in chat (generative AI "NPC"/AI opponent chatbot) and some narrative scenes. Guardrails are in place so that the players cannot diverge, contextually, from the game, and controls are in place to prevent inappropriate input.

Narrative context is generated live, based on player input as well as a history of player actions and game results. The live generated content is used to generate quest content and storyline content and the players can interact with the scene in some narrative situations. Guardrails are in place to prevent inappropriate input from the user and output by the AI. Guardrails are also used to keep all interactions within the context and confines of the game.
